Title: FIXED! ;D oil temperature indicator; hunting & flasing 3 bars - - - S2R 06
Post by: DuciD03 on August 19, 2009, 09:33:20 PM
s2r 2006

I changed the oil; used Casteroil 10W 40 ... (not my choice; I was looking for 15W 50; synthetic but most bike shops were sold out at the moment ...)  Did the oil change and now the oil temp sensor is going bonky; indicating temps all over the place as below.

oil temperature indicator; hunting & flashing 3 bars - - - then various temperatures are indicated 126, 156, 185  then - - -; LO etc.  On a couple hour ride around town ....

Has this happened to anyone else?  Does this indicate an oil pressure problem?  (ut - oh ...)  Other suggestions?   Cheers Dave  ;D

Check the connector on the oil temperature sensor.

Check the connector on the oil temperature sensor.

+1. The connector easily slips off and gives you weird readings. A pretty common issue that's easily fixed.

BTW, the connector you are looking for is the one on the lower right hand side of the engine, down under the clutch housing. It's a push-on sort of affair buried under a little rubber cap.  :)

HA ... all of the above was helpfull; the connector was attached but a little loose ... thus the fluctuating readings; sheesh!  Sometimes its the most obvious little things!

No problem. Glad it was a simple fix and nothing more serious. Now go and ride!  [moto]
