Title: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: zenjim on August 21, 2009, 08:05:36 AM http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/mcy/1333297294.html (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/mcy/1333297294.html)
I saw this bike in Motorcyclist (or Cycle World) recently and drooled all over it. I dig the GT1000. And for just 30 large, it can be yours! Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: Speedbag on August 21, 2009, 08:12:49 AM Not sure about the rodent hide seat cover, but the rest is cool.
Just not $25K+ cool.... :-\ Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: Michael on August 21, 2009, 08:34:19 AM And for you guys who saw the word "Centerfold" in the title and quickly clicked on the link based on that, you're going to be a little disappointed.
Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: swampduc on August 21, 2009, 09:50:01 AM Custom seat cover, Ohlins, and Rizoma bolt-ons. What am I missing? Why is it $25k?
It's really nice, just not $25k nice IMO. Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: Monster Dave on August 21, 2009, 09:53:26 AM um....yuck.....ok, not quite my style...

Hey, man! Sweet bike! -Thanks. I'm the shit! So, what all have you done to it? what's the story behind it? -Well, um... I paid a guy to detail it yesterday Oh... Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: Slide Panda on August 21, 2009, 10:20:51 AM Custom seat cover, Ohlins, and Rizoma bolt-ons. What am I missing? Why is it $25k? It's really nice, just not $25k nice IMO. Yeah, I don't understand the price. There are some expensive bits on there... but one could but the stock bike, bits and labor and not hit 30k... And for that price - the are still using the 2 pot stock brakes.. booo Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: superjohn on August 21, 2009, 10:44:22 AM Neat bike. I'd ride it. Wouldn't pay 2.5 times the cost of a GT1000 for it, but I do like it.
Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: NorDog on August 21, 2009, 11:25:18 AM Someone tell Austin Powers we found his stolen motorcycle seat. [cheeky]
Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: NAKID on August 21, 2009, 12:17:37 PM The seat is either suede or alcantra. The problem with the brakes is that the standard 4 piston gold lines won't fit, but the reservoirs and possibly master cylinders are upgraded. The rotors are upgraded, looks to be BrakeTech, Ohlins shocks and forks, Speedy Moto belt covers, misc powdercoated/ceramic coated bits, new lower triple (maybe upper too, can't tell). New red chain, new crank case breather and bar end mirrors.
That's just what I see. I like it. Do I think it's worth 30k or even close to it? No, sorry... Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: m1moto on August 21, 2009, 12:32:45 PM Good luck with the sale...
Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: TightLines on August 21, 2009, 05:52:54 PM Nice bike but the guy still can't have a decent picture taken?
Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: ducrider45 on August 21, 2009, 07:31:31 PM Nice bike but the guy still can't have a decent picture taken? That would have made the price to jump to $40K. ;DTitle: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: BastrdHK on August 21, 2009, 11:33:57 PM :o anybody hungry? Chicken strips are on the menu!

True, when sitting next to a classic Monster with low slung exhaust the difference is dramatic. One of the cool things about having a V-twin is the narrow profile. Bolt-on BS done *without* the benefit of any fore-thought. Custom paint & graphics thats....um....well....as plain-vanilla as the stock paint is so why bother. Old-school re-production tail-lamp. Stock brakes & exhaust. Still has the wet-clutch. No engine mods. Yup, all the tell-tale signs of a top-notch custom build by the fine, fine folks at Beverly Hills Ducati. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] Nice one.... yeah and bolting a bunch of crap on to a bike is not the definition of "custom" IMO. Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: Holden on August 22, 2009, 04:31:24 PM Yup, all the tell-tale signs of a top-notch custom build by the fine, fine folks at Beverly Hills Ducati. [roll] At the most they probably sold it to him stock. I don't recognize the name Casey. Seller probably threw "Beverly Hills" in there to make it seem fancier, or make a potential buyer feel better about wasting that kind of cash on something homegrown. [hypothetical situation]Say you live in Bel Air and have never heard of how much a Ducati costs, or even the model lineup for that matter. You probably think bikes must cost as much as cars in general, and if this low-mileage, ostensibly historical model is supposed to be equivalent to a Ferrari, then $30k sounds like a deal. Especially if it's what Jeeves happened to bring you when you asked him to find "one of those flaming dago motorcycles like in the movies."[/hypothetical situation] Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: herm on August 22, 2009, 04:35:01 PM anyone who pays that price deserves exactly what they get.

Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: sbui on August 22, 2009, 07:08:05 PM Just read about this bike in some Luxory motorcycle magazines at Borders Book Store. The article pointed out that the owner who was a real big motorcycle guy wanted something custome in his Duc.
Reason this one pops it my mind is, have been interested in getting a Sport Classic, but would like a 2006 model, dry clutch, the only way to go. Well that's a custom hand painted Ducati logo as the article wrote, Term pipes that were painted Flat Black, a bunch of Rizoma parts like the belt covers, which kind of look cool. The light was pushed back a little bit, the risors are Rizoma. Custom seat so that it was higher for the owner, he was like 6 foot something tall. The owner wanted something more "comfortable to ride" as in the article. Kind of funny this coming up after just reading about it only a couple of hours ago. Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: Holden on August 22, 2009, 11:21:59 PM these people do not shop on craigslist. That's where Jeeves came in.Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: Special K on August 23, 2009, 04:57:57 AM $30k is an exceptional price for a lot of commonplace mods (funky seat worth an extra $15 grand?) As anyone whose sold a modded monster knows you don't get your money back on them. Signed by a celebrity would still be unlikely to get this price. They'd be lucky to get $20,000 on this. Nice bike but not that nice.
Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: Monsterlover on August 23, 2009, 05:18:31 AM Nice bike. . .
but it does not make me want to take off my pants and throw them into a tree Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: NorDog on August 23, 2009, 06:31:35 AM I'm not a fan of the base model upon which this "custom" was based. Then, I don't think the cool belt pulley covers really go with the retro intent of this model, especially the RED ones. The whole thing comes of as lame to me; no offense to any who like it is meant here.

Ducati had pod air filters squished and mangled all to hell. Seemed to me nobody had any forethought about clearance, and just jammed them in there anyway. :P I got pics around here somewhere...
As for this bike.. [roll] Doesn't seem to flow. I usually like the SC bikes, but not this one. Stuart and I have different taste in mods, but are cut from the same cloth. Hey, at least the frame was pc'd black. but uhhhh yeah... If you are going to try to get money, at LEAST deliver performance! or maybe even a sense of style... Title: Re: Centerfold Bike For Sale (gulp) $30k Post by: RetroSBK on August 24, 2009, 12:48:08 PM BTW, any brakes will fit, you just need to change rotor offset and remake the mounting plates off the 99 or 2000 996 forks.
