can any one help me out?? i was riding my 2007 695 monster on the freeway (at approx 5k rpm) when all of a sudden the rpms dropped down to 2k (even tho i was giving her gas). I engaged the clutch and b4 i could shift down, the bike shut off. managed to pull her out of traffic and spent 30 min cycling tru the start up process before it finally turned on. all lights and gauges come on and i can hear the starter trying to engage but no fire. I parked the bike for about 2 hours later and it started up fine for about 2 minutes then the engine started to hesitate and then finally shut down. a friend of mine has a gt100 and experienced the same prblm and as it turned out there was a recall on his gt (fuel pump line). I had my tank replaced a year ago ( paint began to start peeling). At best i think it might be the fuel pump/line/filter. My question is, has any other monster owner ever had this prblm? The bike is 2 1/2 years old and im already looking for "issues", is this a common theme (fuel line issues) with ducatis ?????
I've heard of the fuel pump giving up that exhibited the same symptoms that you are describing. ca-cycleworks has replacement pumps that are much more affordable than the OEM ones if that is the problem.
isnt your bike still in warranty? If it is, they even cover towing
no my warranty expired in march :-[
Not to imply you did this, but...
Did you have enough gas in the tank? I overestimated my reserve light once, with similar results.
i just filled up, i don't hear the fuel pump kick in when i turn the ignition on. My next option is to take out the pump and filter. has anyone done this on a 695?!?( i cant find any literature on my bike) if so any help would be appreciated
Have you checked the fuses?
Have you checked for good connections at the battery, solenoid and ground?
What condition is the electrical system in?
Assuming you checked the fuses (looking is not always good enough), next you should make sure voltage is getting to the pump. Pull the connector at the pump and see if you have voltage when you turn the key on or apply juice directly to the pump. No electricity at the pump, fix that first. Oh, also check the ground. Yes, a wiring diagram will be helpful. If no juice goes to the pump, check the pump relay by the battery. The main relay and the pump relay are there. I don't remember which is which. The relay is a standard Bosch type relay, terminals 85 and 86 trigger the relay, 30 and 87 complete the circuit.
i checked the connections to the battery ,looks good all wires are tight and no breakage or buildup. The elec lines seem to be in good condition i've followed the elec lines for inspection and i see no signs of wearing or cracking. I will check the connector and elec juice to the pump today. I will let you guys know how it goes thanks for all the help so far. [clap]
Not to say is the same, but i had the same thing happen to me on my old vfr and it turns out that i had to replace the ecu and the solenoid...........
call your dealer and mention "goodwill"
;)
hahaha trbl [laugh] well i call my dealer and now i gotta take my bike up there. I feel it might be the fuel pump (priced it 1,200.00 dollars!! are you kidding me!??!!?!?!? :o thats my mortgage payment!!!) he says hell give me a free diagnosis,..whatever that means
Diagnosis is usually only "free" if you tell them to fix the problem. Just an FYI.
Ca cycleworks carries the pump for like 150$
cool thanks woppini, i just got the call from the dealer and its confirmed, the fuel pump. im gonna order it from that site thanks for the knowledge [thumbsup]
ok truly frustrated [bang]
I purchased a new fuel pump from ca cycleworks, replaced my old one and nothing!!!! I traced the power coming into the fuel pump system and found I wasnt getting any power to the fuel pump so i traced the wires and found poor soldering (as well as a defective resin in which they were encased; the resin was actly crumbling off when i touched it) on the wire that enter into the tank (3 of the 4 were actly dislodged from their connectors, the only thing that was keeping them from touching each other was the resin in which they were encased. I resoldered the wires and re encased the wires in a new resin. reconnected everything and presto!! the pump kicks in. while i was here i reinstaled the old fuel pump and low and behold it works too!!! (while i was here i went ahead and put the new pump in). I reassembled the unit (triple checked all leads and connections) and reinserted the unit back into the tank, I connected all the lines and fired her up and now im getting a puttering then stall. I hear thee pump kick on. but now im stumped [bang]. My duck is starting to piss me off!!!!!
sitting by idle [popcorn] while life passes me by....
Your bike doesn't seem terribly old. ...Possibly you have a short some where which originally caused the to resin to deteriorate and the solder to partially melt, an its reoccurring?
Do you have constant 12V to the new pump (with the key on)? If so put the old pump back in and see what happens. The new pump is possibly DOA or the wrong one.
I believe the deteriorating was caused by spotty materials the solder initially wasnt soldered in properly which caused the wiring connection to fail.I tested both pumps and they work fine, when I turn the key I can hear the pump start up. I took out the spark plugs and I can smell the gas and I see [gas] on the plugs so i know fuel is entering the chambers. I checked voltage and im getting current to the pump so thats not my prblm now. It seems im not getting any spark to the plugs. I pulled out the wiring diagram and now im chasing an electrical gremlin [evil] (someone mentioned a relay, does anyone know where its located on the 07 monster??? as i've said ive been trying to trail it down with the diagrm but all the wires are covered up).I havent really had that much time with my bike to do any mods with it so its all stock. I really enjoy my bike but this is really frustrating ??? esply on a bike that is a couple of years old. It seems everything happens after the warranty expired,..hmmmm
The relay howie mentioned is controlling the pump so if you have power at the pump the relay is working. Have you changed the fuel filter yet?
"THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS" [evil] thanks for everyones input. as it turns out when i replaced the fuel pump and resoldered the wires i was soo fixated on that that i forgot to top off the tank :o my duc is back to purring "stupid riding rabbit" [bang] thanks all again!!! see you guys out on the road!!!!!

So...
you were out of gas? [evil] ;D
HEHEHE well i filled up b4 the prblm and when i drained my tank to repair the wiring connections i thought i left enough to start her up after the repairs,...guess i was wrong. anyways shes running like a champ now!! thanks to all for the advise [bow_down]
