Ducati Monster Forum

I know KG5 and I have yellow (Giallo Ducati) kits mounted, and I just found out mrs. darkside has a light blue (probably Azzuro Mediterraneo) one. It seems that it would be a good idea to collect links to "real world" pictures of the various colors to help people in making decisions about whether to order a kit or not. With the stock Anniversary Red, Dark, Pearl White, and Silver, there's a total of 14 individual colors available on pre-painted panels for these bikes.

As of August 2009, they're USD$699 in the US for most colors (more for gold and silver) and can be swapped out with what's on the bike in a short time with a few hex keys.

If you've got a kit mounted, take pics. If you see one in the "real world" and take pics, or know of good pictures other than the 'shopped ones on the Ducati site, post a link.

Those who swap "stock" panel colors on different frame colors (while panels on red frame, red panels on black frame, etc.) or who've installed the various "special" tank skins should also be featured here. My basic interest in this thread is in color customization of new-style Monsters using off-the-shelf parts.

Anyone who has done color therapy want to trade or sell their factory skins? I am looking for black ones. I have the silver ones on my 1100. The bike is a month old and there isnt a scratch on them if you want to trade.

This is why I wanted to do this thread. That blue looks so much sweeter on a real bike than in the little booklet.

This hasn't come up yet but I wonder if non 696 1100 are a touch jealous of this uber cool option

People have been customizing Monsters since they first came out, including lots of fancy paint schemes. These kits are certainly much quicker than painting, possibly cheaper, and could theoretically be changed on a whim if you're made of money. Other than that, I don't think there's much to be jealous of.

If things go well, this week, I am going to move my matte black 696 bodywork over to a new 1100 red frame.  I will post pics if it happens.

About 3 hours to rip off all the body work and switch it all over - taking pictures the entire time.  I have the whole series from start to finish - pictures from each piece removal on the 1100 down to nothing then as parts start to move over.  This was a pretty easy switch.  I also took all the frame stickers off the 1100.  Reflectors are next as is the addition of the FEK.

I've had this 696 for a year and 3 months (almost), seen it and ridden it almost every day.  It looks like a completely different bike. I don't even recognize it anymore.  Its late, I will add some pics of the parts off and series tomorrow.

Wow the flat black looks sweet with the red frame. If i could only get someone to trade me some flat black panels for my pearl white ones, I'd jump all over it.

Mine came that way from the factory. That's one of the standard colors.

I was interested to hear that, according to my dealer, they've sold more Lila Glamour kits than any other color.

It is a very nice-looking color.

what do you think about how the stripes end at the center piece? can you take a pic from that angle? i have these and wondering if I want to pull the stripes and put on an 80's logo in red without the stripe.

Got these yesterday. In a couple of days I will get them back from my painter (clear coated) and post some pics of them installed.

Very nice!  I wish I had the Lila Glamour clear coated before installation because that OEM coat is not strong....it's aready got some light scratches from normal use.  [bang]

Are the "Logomania" skins also $699?

I don´t know about the price in the US but over here (Sweden) it costs about 100USD more than the Monster Art ones.

Great thread!  I'm planning on ordering the Mach 1 skins as soon as I get an update from my dealer about the 696 they're working pricing out on for me (it's a looong story).  I'll post pics whenever I get the bike and skins.

You are correct. The OEM clear coat is weak.

Is it better to get "skins" or a replacement cowl from DP vs. dealer? Other sources?

I'm rocking the bright blue skins on my black framed 696. It took a minute to grow on me, but I really dig it. I'll try to get some pickup later today.

 i am very jealous! ive searched the forums for info on swapping my 05 620 tank for a newer 696 style cause i really love the look of them but have had no luck. does anyone know if it can be done? im waiting for winter to start painting my current tank, im going to make it white with a red digital camo stripe. i think that that white with the red frame and stripe combo looks awesome.the white is actually going to be a tri-coat meaning it will be a white base coat with a white pearl midcoat and clear on top.

*without a lot of work: The old monster tanks hinge at the rear mount on frame, new monsters do not - the method of attachment is completely different.

ANYTHING is doable with enough work. I suspect it'd be cheaper to buy a 696, though.

I agree that this probably belongs in a different thread unless you have photos to post of replacement skins on your 620.
