G'day,
Just wondering if any one has some ideas for a mod to the crapy little horn on my S4RS. The standard one brings down the bike......it has to go!
I would like something that is LOUD and looks trick.
Cheers [beer]
Stebel i think is the name of the one's people are using.

If you want something between stock and the Stebel

something else in between:

These are by Fiamm, sold thru Pep boys. Not so trick. But, there will be blood, in the ears of cagers! [laugh]
wow, they look good too. the stebels are a sight for sore eyes.

Perhaps you meant "the stebels make my eyes sore?" The are ugly and must be hidden on a Duc. They are right at home on a touring bike though. ;D
I have a Fiamm blaster on my Bandit. It's loud enough. I haven't found using a horn as a weapon to be very effective.
Mine are these http://www.cyclesolutions.net/index.php?option=com_store&manufacturer=1&item=ELCHRN (http://www.cyclesolutions.net/index.php?option=com_store&manufacturer=1&item=ELCHRN)
Quite loud and immediate blast, need no relay - direct bolt on the stock position and wiring.
18,000 miles - no problems.

Phrase dyslexia. :-X
Louder horn? Who knew. I usually use my middle finger as the primary form of communication between myself and the 4 wheeled world. I save my horn for when I have my winter gloves on and I am trying to turn off the turn signal.
+1
I love my Stebel [thumbsup]
Makes people on the sidewalk jump.
PS. the directions seem complicated, but its actually stupid easy to install. Plug in, bolt on, done.

What about making something like this happen?

I saw a guy a few years ago who had a set of 2 trumpets pointing forward from just in front of his rear axle. I couldn't talk to him so I never got the scoop.
+2 on the Stebel, have one on mine and OMG people take notice.
cheaper alternative to the Stebel:

this is wolo's version of the Stebel at 118 decibels...I just ordered it for my Duc. if it's not loud enough, I can always throw it on my road rager GF's car (without telling her [evil] )

This is something thats interested me for a while.
Post up if it's a good product. I like the price range and I'm tired of people cutting me off and acting like they didn't see me.
I had the wolo on my old F150. Just as loud as the Stebel, but cheaper...

A loud horn isn't going to change that, but it might make you feel better.
Alternatively, you could buy the Fiamm for $15, or just yell.
I forget the brand, but I bought these at Auto Zone. I painted them flat black because I hate chrome and to hide the intrinsic ugliness of the darn things. But they are loud.
I mounted the relay to the inside of the left side carbon fiber side panel on the outside of the frame under the seat.
I love 'em.

They are the same size and shape as the ones I have, and linked to. Maybe the are the same.
I think they sound "Italian" [thumbsup]
Nice mounting job!
You know, I know that a loud horn won't change anything really, but you know, it would make me feel better especially since the glare that I give to the idiots who cut me off doesn't seem to be penetrating my tinted visor.

In the end, the piece of mind would be worth it to me. [thumbsup]

Thanks Dave.
In reality they can save your [bacon]
Years ago I had someone begin to pull out in front of me. It would have been painful. I had time to blast 'em with the horns (same type of horns on a R90/6 back in the 80's). The cage drive slammed on the brakes and looked terrified as if he were about to be hit by an 18 Wheeler! [clap]
They can make a difference; just don't depend on them exclusively, if you know what I mean.

My thoughts exactly. I'd rather at least have the chance to protect myself. [thumbsup]
To those that have mounted stebel, which ones did you use?

They are Hella 85115
They come red in color. I took them apart and painted black. One is in stock location the other is mounted under my headlights. I got them on Ebay for I think 30? It was years ago.

OK, so I finally got around to installing this thing and I know one or two folks were asking about the WOLO version of the Stebel. I found a perfect place to mount it under my airbox (where an oil cooler would normally be. I used a flat piece of steel to bolt the horn to the frame where the bolt hole for the old horn was. (see pic #1) I had to mount the horn on its side ,but it works just fine. Had to relocate the ballasts for my HIDs, but they're tucked in even higher now.

The horn placement was perfect for my bike and the nice thing abou the WOLO horn is that they give you a relay to use. I added the Ducati logo to make it look a bit more OEM. The only bad thing about the horn is that it comes with some very cheesey looking stickers on it that took some time to remove.
So what does it sound like? Imagine a couple of those canned airhorns they use at sporting events. that's exactly what it sounds like. Overall I'm very happy: $30 and an hour or so of work and I have a nice highway blaster!

i personally just carry a large english handbell (i prefer the leather strap to the plastic or wood handles)

Cowbells work too. You gotta have more of them.

2002 S4 has 2 horns facing to the front under the headlight. I know they have a similar setup on the sport classi The Hella horns are loud @118 db. Here is a link for a writeup on them in Webbike World. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-horns/hella-supertone/ (http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-horns/hella-supertone/)

Stebel Nautilus (aka Wolo Bad Boy) is astoundingly loud [evil]. But its even uglier that it is loud and gotta be - IMHO - hidden from view. I just wish I could figure out where to fit such a thing on my M1100s..... has anybody tried one of these (less farting around as no relay is needed) >> http://cgi.ebay.com.au/High-Power-Magnum-500Hz-Single-Electric-Stebel-Horn-12v_W0QQitemZ120469589309QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories?hash=item1c0c8c0d3d&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/High-Power-Magnum-500Hz-Single-Electric-Stebel-Horn-12v_W0QQitemZ120469589309QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories?hash=item1c0c8c0d3d&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262) ?

You may want to rethink your mounting. WOLO (Stebel) recommends mounting it no more than 15 degrees from vertical. With yours mounted at about 90 degrees, it can (read: will in less than a year) wear out.
