Title: Rear sprocket question
Post by: Mike_D on August 29, 2009, 01:25:48 PM
This may be a dumb question but I just had a new set of tires put on by my dealer (Pilot Road 2s--woo-hoo!) on my 2008 S2R1K and I noticed today while cleaning the chain that I can wiggle the rear sprocket from side to side about 1/16"-1/32".  Is it normal to have this play in it or should it be tight with no play?  The sprocket nuts are tight.  Thanks.

Though I haven't worked on a SSS monster, the sprocket on a DSS monster is mounted to a plate that's part of the cush drive.  The whole assembly is just easily pressed into the wheel.  Since there's no fasteners to hold the sprocket and mount in it can be moved my hand.

You might confirm your chain tension - but I wouldn't freak out.

Most rear sprockets on the SSS monsters have a little wiggle to them.  You're fine.

Normal and as designed to allow for a bit of misalignment in the chain.

Thanks all--I just didn't remember the sprocket having play in it like that.  I flogged it today to make sure and zombies didn't attack so. . . . ;D
