I'm in the unfortunate situation of not having a garage. I couldn't let that stop me from getting a motorcycle, so now I have to find a way to work around this problem as best I can. I live in Norway, which (at least in my part of the country) means a lot of rain, humid air, and temperatures from 0 to 25 degrees celcius (I'm obviously finding a place to store the bike inside for when the winter comes). This leads me to lots of questions regarding outdoor storage and maintenance, so here goes:
- Should I use some sort of rain cover for everyday use? If so - what kind: the 100% rain proof ones that lead to condensation or the "breathing" kind?
- What kind of daily/weekly maintenance should I be extra careful to do, to mend with this situation?
- Is there any point of using a bike stand if the bike is not ridden for a couple of weeks, or is that only used for longer periods like winter storage?
- Should I mount some sort of "bobbins" to lift the bike with a bike stand? If so - what kind should I get for my Ducati Monster 620ie?
rain cover not necessary, mine sits outside through everything and comes inside if there is going to be more than 6" of snow.
tire pressures are critical, do a walkaround of the bike before you go out to see if anything fell off or anything unusual.
Stands all the time would become annoying, for long periods put it on stands aside from that they'll just help with maintenance.
can if ya want to, they make stands where you don't need them if you want a spooled stand run to any shop and pick some up from lockheart for cheap
A Bike Barn (http://www.thebikebarn.net/) or similar would be good to keep the elements off of the bike.
Do you have space ?
Well its Norway, so you should have looooads of it :)
Get one of those and stop worrying :

(http://www.bikehome.com/druckbilder.htm)I also found another one, air pressured somewhere, but thats total overkill I think.
But..well..against the snow and the elks...maybe
You should get some kind of cover. If not, random bolts will get rusty and make your bike look like shit.

That's really pretty cool for an outdoor cover. A lot less hassle than messing with a standard style moto cover like I used to use.
Drop stopintime a PM.
He lives in Oslo and could have some suggestions.
where can I get one of the bike covers? The link only showed a few pictures
Thanks!
Check these out, some people on the board use them and are quite happy with them.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll se if I can find something similar to that cycleshell in scandinavia. I'll also be sure to hook up with Stopintime next time I'm in Oslo.
