Hey guys,
Some of you know my buddy Mason had a nasty crash while on his Monster last week.
He is currently comatose, with many broken bones on his left side and a shattered right ankle. He is improving every day, and is surrounded by friends who love him and are pulling for him.
Luckily, Mase has health insurance as well as moto insurance, but he will be unable to return to work for awhile. (He works for Icon) I can't imagine how astronomical his living expenses and hospital bills (after insurance) are going to be. There is a donation fund set up to help him and his family.
If you guys can and/or want, donations are being gladly accepted here (http://www.innerrageracing.com/GetWellSoonMason). If all you can give are well wishes, I'll be sure to let his family and him know that he has supporters everywhere.
Thank you so much for your support, we are rooting for Mason and hoping he wakes up soon!!!
(I'm going to post this on GMF as well, since I'm not sure which board is appropriate...)
Hope he gets well soon.
Get Well Mason!
Good thoughts going out for Mason, condolences and strength to his family and loved ones, and wishes for a speedy recovery.

Another update on Mase:
He ended up with a blood clot in his right thigh yesterday which was pretty scary. They put him on blood thinners and put a filter in before he goes into surgery again. His ICP (intracranial pressure) was spiking but is really low today.
He's doing better than ever, the clot was a little scary but it looks like he'll be ok.
Thank you all!!
well wishes sent [thumbsup]
That's a pretty sobering reminder of how dangerous riding can be.
I hope everything works out and he has a speedy recovery.
will do. thanks for posting, neenja
Will keep him in my thoughts. CAM had a few riders go down this weekend...one is still in the hospital. Stay safe people. It's scary out there.
I went through this myself last spring. My right ankle was also shattered, but it healed better than was expected. I hope your friend does as well. He's in for a long recovery, and will need friends and support long after he gets out of the hospital. I wish him the best of luck.
Argh! Was Mason one of the guys who came with you to meet us in P-Town?? :-[
Hope he gets better soon!!
Major update:
Got a call from Mason's mom this morning saying he was mouthing words and sentences, and actually asking the nurse to stop pinching him because it hurt. Packed up my yard sale and zoomed to the hospital.
While I was visiting him, he kept squeezing my hand, stoking it with his thumb. His tracking was a little better, and he was definitely focusing more now than he was last time. We weren't able to decipher all the things he was trying to say, but some of it we could make out:
"I'm sorry"
"I love you"
"Oh yes" (after being asked if he needed a bottle of Crown Royal [laugh])
He still isn't classified as "awake" but he is getting there. There are ten levels of comatose, and he is currently a level 3 with 1 being completely incapacitated with no responses to any outside stimulation. So we have a long way to go but I'd say he's gone up a level or two in just the past few days.
Thanks again everyone for all your good thoughts, they have obviously helped!!!!
That is great news! Hope he continues to make progress!
[thumbsup]
thats great news neenja!!!
sounds like he's definitely making progress [thumbsup]
Had a friend of the family go into a coma in high school it was a long, long recovery.
Best wishes to him and his family, it's a long road but worth every step.
Good thoughts to him and his family!
What does the 757 in the website mean?
757 is his race number, and his "thing" before he crashed was Superman, so we put them together. Supermase! [laugh]
Mason is in my thoughts Neenja. Stick with him and keep encouraging him to push through. The fact that he is responding to you guys is absolutely awesome!
Exciting update about Mason today!!
Mo and I went and saw him about 7pm. Mo asked him how he was doing and he threw him the hang loose sign!
So, not only is he responding more to our visits, a little bit of the old Mase shone through today.
Here's hoping for a full recovery and to get our Mason back.
On a medical note, he still has the trach in. We spoke to one of his nurses and she said she wasn't sure when they will take it out, but when they do it will be a gradual process to wean him off. He is breathing on his own now, the trach is just there to help when needed and to keep the air moist.
Great news!
Yesterday Mo and I went and saw Mase. He has his trach completely removed, he is awake, talking, and eating solid foods. His brain is still not completely wired yet, as a lot of his sentences were slurred together or didn't make much sense. But the old Mase is definitely back! Lot's of F Bombs being dropped. I asked him if the nurses were hitting on him yet and he said "Pssssshhhh, which ones aren't?" He was very happy to see us and is aware that he's been gone a long time. I told him we've all been pulling for him and he said "Good, I've been pulling for you guys." It made me smile, but I told him he should just keep pulling for himself and he agreed. Like I said, he said a lot of things that didn't make a lot of sense but he seemed to understand that. His brain knows what he wants to say but it's not firing quite right yet so it comes out different. He still has a slight staph infection and now a bladder infection, but he's getting better by the second. His mood was really really good, he was in high spirits yesterday and was laughing and joking around with us like he used too. He told Mo and I we are going to Japan, and him and Mo are going to France also and kicking that Armstrong guys ass.
Here's to Mase, and his speedy recovery...
that IS great news neenja [thumbsup]

He is persistent. He is one tough a** mutha f***a. If anybody could come out of it, it's Mason.
It's been really hard to stay positive through this whole thing, but I always knew Mase isn't the type to give up easily.
It's great to hear he's getting better. Good spirits really do help [thumbsup]

And it's that kind of positive attitude, and positive reinforcement from great friends like you that make the difference! [thumbsup]
Awesome news. ;D
