Title: Re: the all-in-one, superfantastic bar end MIRROR thread! Post by: M900 on September 01, 2009, 05:53:14 AM I have the knock-off CRG's from D2Moto. They're cheap -- around $20 for the pair -- but they suck. It gives you a nice shaky view of your knee or the moon a few minutes after it shakes itself into a different position.
Here it is on my bike; (http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r41/96monster900/DSC_0379.jpg) Title: Re: the all-in-one, superfantastic bar end MIRROR thread! Post by: DCXCV on September 01, 2009, 06:19:06 AM CRG hindsight LS. Think I got them from CA Cycleworks, but they sell them, regardless. $76 for the lane splitters. Doesn't move or rattle. They do fold in per design which has saved it from breaking twice.
They also sell a plug for the end of your bar that the mirror can mount onto which means you don't have to move your controls to make room for the mirror clamp. click on the pics to enlarge (http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z166/trdtaco98/th_img1247847928672.jpg) (http://s190.photobucket.com/albums/z166/trdtaco98/?action=view¤t=img1247847928672.jpg) (http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z166/trdtaco98/th_img1247847929342.jpg) (http://s190.photobucket.com/albums/z166/trdtaco98/?action=view¤t=img1247847929342.jpg) Title: Re: the all-in-one, superfantastic bar end MIRROR thread! Post by: lagerman72 on September 01, 2009, 06:22:38 AM I have the Rizoma Class Retro's. Got them from PJ's and have always found them very good to work with. They were initially bigger on the bike than I thought they would be but the view is really good and it's also very steady through all the rev's. I think they're around $120 ea (I know it's high but they're very solid), however I did also have to buy the bar end adapters to fit them onto ($35pr).

Great mirrors. I hate that they are in the way of my hands though - always pushing in on my outside edge. I've got mine on the CycleCat bar sliders, so they aren't on the actual bar, but on the bar end. I'll eventually find some other mirrors that mount in the middle. They don't rattle or shake, they can take a crashing and keep on working fine. Title: Re: the all-in-one, superfantastic bar end MIRROR thread! Post by: herm on September 01, 2009, 09:26:02 AM crg...

I too have the napoleons and love them. I tried Monstrack Mirrors (look great, not curved so the view wasn't much), the tiny, 2" CRG (completely useless), mickey mouse mirrors (stock) and some stock ones from a newer monster. The napoleons were easily the most functional of the entire batch. No vibration at speed, clear and wide view. Title: Re: the all-in-one, superfantastic bar end MIRROR thread! I only used the piece that puts the mirror "up" not the one that puts it further "out". Adjusted them, tightened them up, and they're good all the way up to my bikes top speed. The napoleons were easily the most functional of the entire batch. No vibration at speed, clear and wide view. How do you mount your napoleons? do you have the Napoleons down and in or up? I've been considering them just because of the price and the size of the actual mirros, but I'd want it down (liek Industrialgirl's) and I'm not sure of it'll still actually work as mirros then... Title: Re: the all-in-one, superfantastic bar end MIRROR thread! Post by: erik822 on September 03, 2009, 07:56:33 AM I had them up and in. Then moved them to down and in and now have them up and out.
For the best visibility, wide side up and out is the way to go. They have a bit more curve and a slightly wider view that way. When I had them mounted in (which I preferred the look of) I got a wider view of my elbows and a narrower view of the road. Also when they were mounted up and in the interfered with my brake a clutch lever a tiny bit. Nothing to worry about, but it wasn't ideal. That wouldn't be a problem if they were mounted down and in, however. Title: Re: the all-in-one, superfantastic bar end MIRROR thread! Post by: erkishhorde on September 03, 2009, 08:03:06 AM I like the Napoleons because they're so durable. I've had the bike down with them on twice and while they do mar up, as long as you can get the mounting bolt out, it's a typical bolt that you can find at the hardware store to get you running again. They're also very adjustable. Like erik and industrialgrl I've tried them both up and down. Down was convenient since there's almost no way to accidentally bump them but visibility was short. I've settled on up and diagonal in. Gives me clearance to split but I can still see plenty behind me. I also like the weight to them. They weigh more than any bar end so they help with vibrations a lot.

Also, has anyone used the Triumph ripoff of the Rizomas? I put a pair of the Oberon Streetfighters on my, well, Streetfighter. They're quite a bit smaller than the CRGs, and the glass is much flatter. The net effect of those two things is you have a very limited field of view. Plus they're not adjustable while on the bike - basically you use a couple of big set screws to get them in place, and there they stay. Long story short, I pulled the CRGs off my Monster and the Oberons are sitting on my bench. Title: Re: the all-in-one, superfantastic bar end MIRROR thread! (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3416/3611192522_c3f662282a_o.jpg) Wow, looks familiar [thumbsup] I echo these sentiments in that there is no vibration when attached to the bar and the image is awesome. Fit and finish is superb and consistent with the price. One comment however, I recently had a driveway tipover that is too complicated to go into here, but the bottom line is that these are so solid that since the mirror sticks beyond the end of the bar, it actually bent my bar. I would consider mounting them to the bar end (they are made for this with compatible Rizoma barends), but I would be afraid of loosing the vibration free image.
