Title: Public Service Announcement for those considering Swine Flu Vaccine
Post by: Betty Rage on September 01, 2009, 08:39:57 AM
A warning that the new swine flu jab is linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter.

The letter from the Health Protection Agency, the official body that oversees public health, has been leaked to The Mail on Sunday, leading to demands to know why the information has not been given to the public before the vaccination of millions of people, including children, begins.

It tells the neurologists that they must be alert for an increase in a brain disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine.

GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal.

The letter, sent to about 600 neurologists on July 29, is the first sign that there is concern at the highest levels that the vaccine itself could cause serious complications.

It refers to the use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 when:

    * More people died from the vaccination than from swine flu.
    * 500 cases of GBS were detected.
    *  The vaccine may have increased the risk of contracting GBS by eight times.
    * The vaccine was withdrawn after just ten weeks when the link with GBS became clear.
    * The US Government was forced to pay out millions of dollars to those affected.

Concerns have already been raised that the new vaccine has not been sufficiently tested and that the effects, especially on children, are unknown.

Do you have any links or anything to support this?  No offense to you but this looks like a cut n paste from a chain email.

I heard about this as well from a friend. I found this link online from Fox News regarding it. There hasn't been anything posted as of yet on the CDC website that supports this or not that I can find, not that it means this story isn't accurate- I just haven't found anything as of yet.  ???

The movement continues by those who think vaccines and immunizations are "awful"  [roll]

It should also be noted that this letter originated in the United Kingdom, not the United States.

the United States does not have a "Health Protection Agency."

just b/c it originated in the U.K. does not diminish its value, does it?
good food for thought
is the vaccine worth the risk?

Ciao!

I've heard GBS mentioned on NPR a couple of times in reference to the H1N1 swine flu vaccine.  The vaccine, if I recall correctly, in '76 was made from whole dead viruses, while the new flu vaccine, like all modern flu vaccines, are made from parts of dead viruses.

The CDC is monitoring the situation to see if the rate of GBS in the population rises above the normal background rate.

I'm another one of "those" who doesn't support vaccines. There are many many pros and cons of it and I based my choice on them.

Are you including all childhood vaccinations in this?  (Hep A and B, Rotovirus, measels, mumps, polio etc)

Yes, and I have my reasons and I've done my research, attended vaccination classes and seminars and this is the conclusion I've come to.

I don't want this to be another vaccination debate thread so that's the end of that. If this thread wavers from the OP I'm locking it.

That's fine and all, but that is what your post is about.........a memo against the use of a vaccination because of a far study by one group. Much like the debate about how certain vaccines cause autism.

It's not worth arguing about, so I'll just stop and post my own thread. carry on.

You're right, it's not worth it.

My OP was just what the title says, a public service announcement. I myself hadn't heard of this particular risk and so I thought others would want to know as well.

carry on.

Grabs a tin foil hat and puts it on sideways, yo.

Mexican Swine Flu.  Sorry, forgot to put the PC filter on.  HINI-Flu.  Seems like the drug companies have to make up some super flu every 4-5 years to terrorize the masses into getting flu shots again.  CEO must need a new G6.

wads tin foil hat up and throws it in recycle bin and takes a vitamin c tablet.

vitamin c tablet.

Save your money.

No scientific evidence to support that vitamin C reduces chance of cold or fighting one off.

Airborne doesn't work either  [thumbsup]

the one year I got the flu was the one year I skipped the shot.

It make the beast with two backsing blows. I could barely move for about 3 days.

See!  You've become dependent on the "vaccine" (mind control serum XJ1) and will suffer for straying from THEM.  ;D

I wouldn't trust the Daily Mail with much beyond quoting their sales figures. If it were from the Guardian, I'd think it'd have some traction.

I wash my hands a lot. That is a HUGE preventative from communicable disease.

I have gotten a seasonal Flu shot every year for the past 5 years and have suffered no side effects that I know of including  not contracting the Flu.

I had the Flu back in 1977 and was bed ridden for 5 days .

The reason I remember that is because it was the 2nd week after I started a new job.

I just got a buncha booster vaccines.

I respect the rights of people to make decisions about vaccinating their kids.  That being said, as a pediatric nurse I've seen plenty of kids on death's door from diseases that are easily preventable by vaccinating.  Without fail, every single time, the parents were beating themselves up for not vaccinating as they helplessly watched their baby turning blue and coughing uncontrollably with whooping cough, RVS, or whatever, too weak to even cry.  It ain't pretty, especially when we have to stick a tube down their throats or cut a hole in their necks to breathe for 'em.  :'(

^ +1, saw this a number of times in med school. Plus there are the long-term ramifications if these diseases are caught in adulthood or if immunosuppressed people are exposed by a carrier.

Quote
A public service announcement (PSA) or community service announcement (CSA) is a non-commercial advertisement broadcast on radio or television, for the public interest. PSAs are intended to modify public attitudes by raising awareness about specific issues. The most common topics of PSAs are health and safety. A typical PSA is part of a public awareness campaign to inform or educate the public about an issue.

The words in bold are key here. The thread title is very misleading considering the source. Instead, the content of the original post serves to MISinform and attempt to frighten rather than informing and educating.

Perhpas the thread title should be re-evaluated and then changed to "Public Scare Tactic Announcement for those who are misinformed about the Swine Flu Vaccine"

you know, really, you are reading too much into that stupid title. It was not meant to mean that I consider myself an expert on the swine flu. All I was trying to do was inform others of a different side of the vaccine.

There is no scare tactics or attempts to misinform. I know i would want to know a potential bad side effect if I was planning on getting this, or any other vaccine for that matter.

You know...they told me the potential side effects of certain meds I would have to take after the last surgery I had. But the death that was a side effect of not taking it outweighed the 0.00002% chance that I would develop cancer.

Too often, people miss the context of an article on medicine. They base decisons off of emotion rather than cold hard facts and frankly, emotion has to take a back burner role determining what is true or just made up information to try and scare people away from or towards something.

Disclaimers also have to exist for the purpose of minimizing frivolous lawsuits. I know, I know...frivolous lawsuits in the US you say??!! But it's true.  ;)

That article is clearly there to deter people from getting the vaccine.
