So, you havn't been there yet. You might want to run those places by the local Austinites. Depending on the area..it could be a not-so-good area..or the traffic to get anywhere isn't fun. It seems like you're coming from NY though, right? So the traffic might not be so bad for you. But, Austin def. has to work on the highways around there! I have never been on a highway that had so many stoplights as the 360! Regardless..Austin is a cool place to be!! [thumbsup] BTW..keep property taxes in mind. $140K house won't be too bad at the end of the year though..about $4500 cash you'll have to save up. Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: cokey on September 10, 2009, 05:11:44 PM i was out in austin back in march.. heading over there on the 18 to look at 4 places.. yea most of the taxes were in the range of 1k to 4k... yes traffic here sucks.. we're aren't going look at the 1.6 acre house due to maybe foundation problems and comute.. they said something like 4 tolls maybe.. yea, not many places have worse traffic then ny or pothole filled highways..
Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: IZ on September 21, 2009, 07:04:13 AM So what did you find Cokey?
Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: cokey on September 21, 2009, 06:21:16 PM out of bout 12 we looked at.. we settled on top 2.. both in ceder creak (sp).. #1 which we are going to try and get is a 4 bed, pretty spacious 1 floor 2 car all stone house.. back yard has a stone deck with stone bar.. pretty nice set up which was a good selling point.. being a carpenters son though, i allready was looking at what walls i could tear down to make the house bigger, and the garage of course lol.. i want a lift in there.. it's going for 135k but we're gonna try and knock it down some..
another one we looked at in taylor(sp) was really big, pretty far out though.. 5 beds almost 3000 sq feet but it was a repo and they messed it up pretty bad... felt like too much of a hassle to start off with.. others here and there we good but we're going to try and get #1... always go for the house that makes you say "oooo"... just gotta see how long it'll be before we move now.. Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: spaceghost65 on September 21, 2009, 09:12:02 PM cokey > Good luck. Hope you find something you like.
But like IZ said, no 140K with an Austin addy. I paid 124K for a 2-1 in central Austin 4 YEARS ago. But again, good luck and welcome to central Texas. Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Time Warner is jerking around and hasn't gotten back to me.. prob end up paying couple times while still in NY, hope not.. anyone here hiring? I can learn anything in a weeks time, real talk. >;]

Be prepared though, Austin is a very cool place. Everyone wants to be there! The employers know this so they don't pay you sh*t. Some of the lowest wages in the state. I was getting paid a decent wage in Lake Travis. The health job..not so competitive though as opposed to the rest of TX or like here in PHX. I really do miss Austin but low wages along with high property taxes (that are going to be raised again) just wasn't worth it to me. Getting back to the UT suggestion. When my wife was leaving her job..they had over 350 applicants wanting her position. Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: cokey on September 22, 2009, 06:22:41 PM cedar park** dnt know where i got ceder creak from lol... that's the area the house is in..

Kind of o/t, but dang IZ, I didn't know you left LT already. Where to you call home now? Cokey, I lived in Cedar Park back in the late 90s. It's OK. Fairly easy commute to Austin now that there is the toll road. I moved away from Austin for a few years, missed it and moved back. I almost moved back to Cedar Park again, but after renting a house there for a while, I decided I didn't really like it anymore. Since we always seemed to hang out at the lake, we decided why not just live there, so I bought a house in a small lake-front community just west of Bee Cave. Since I'm not in the city limits, my taxes aren't all that bad. By the way, there is also a Cedar Creek in the area - it's east of Austin. Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: cokey on September 25, 2009, 10:07:02 AM Ah idnt remember if I looked @ bee cave last time in march, believe I did thgh.. yea the drive down to the city (avoiding tolls) didn't seem bad @ all
Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: cokey on September 25, 2009, 10:37:36 AM how much are houses going for there? The place we were trying to get might fall thrgh.. the bank who owns it is BSing around.. so we are going for # 2 which is only 119k and doesn't need any work..
Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: IZ on September 25, 2009, 09:30:29 PM Ah idnt remember if I looked @ bee cave last time in march, believe I did thgh.. yea the drive down to the city (avoiding tolls) didn't seem bad @ all Bee Caves is out by Lakeway/Lake Travis area. My address was messed up. It was an Austin address but I lived past Bee Caves and across the street was Lakeway. ??? BTW..not sure if I read your response right but there are no tolls going from Bee Caves/Lakeway into Austin. Very nice ride..pretty..especially on foggy mornings! Riding the bike into town though.. [thumbsup] There were 3 ways to take and all of them had nice, long, sweeping roads. Scooby..yeah, left over a month ago. Currently, in Tempe. Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: cokey on September 26, 2009, 05:20:03 AM Nice.. yea I drove thrgh and around bee cave back in march.. I meant there's a none toll road into austin from cedar park.. looks like we'll be taking a diff house thgh.. 3 bed no work needed spacious and only 119k..
Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: RED on September 26, 2009, 09:21:46 AM Here's your perfect deal, I used to live out at Lakeway and it's great (that is when the lake has water in it !! :-[ ??? [roll]). So look out at Lakeway at the Casa Verde Condos. Excellent places there for the money, very close to the water AND top school district.
Second, my ST4s (shameless plug) is what you'd need for those long weekends riding the 3 sisters in the Hill Country out west. I'm not sure what they go for in Bee Cave proper - like I said, I live outside the city limits. Prices out where I'm at vary widely depending mostly on how far from the water the house is and when the house was built. Since I have been there, Houses in my neighborhood have gone anywhere between 180K to 700K. THere are some older homes further up the hill out of my neighborhood that have gone for around 100K or even less. Title: Re: moving to austin, anyone selling.. Post by: cokey on October 01, 2009, 05:23:46 PM ah ok.. well one of the houses we put an offer on sold to some one else.. and the one we wanted first the bank is trying to add 12k since they painted some stuff and said they had to fix the roof.. bastards painted over a murial on the outside back of the house.. which we liked.. they don't know what the hell they're doing.. they painted over something else in the kitchen we also liked.. so after that the house is like blah to us now... fannie mae sucks.. going to be hard to choose a house now though..
