Title: Clunky gear changes
Post by: MAXdB on September 04, 2009, 11:02:15 PM
I've been noticing that my transmission seems to be clunkier than usual... both going into first gear from neutral as well as downshifting through the gears. Could that be a signal for something bad? I've got about 12k miles on the bike right now..

Maybe the clutch has  air in the oil and needs  to be purged. I had  the same problem and   had too much play on the clutch handle because I lost  the retaining screw on the adjusting screw.

Might just have some air in your clutch line.  Give 'er a good bleed and some new fluid.

+Whatever. The easiest explanation for clunky shifts is that the clutch is not fully disengaged when you shift.  A little bit of power is going through.

As noted it probably just means you need to bleed the clutch line.  But if you've made any adjustments to the lever, you should reverse them and see if it helps.

if those two don't help - the next stage is to investigate the clutch slave for leaks.
