Title: Invisible Oil Strainer Post by: wrxmy99 on September 05, 2009, 05:19:33 AM Gday all.
Had a bit of a play this arv. Fitted DP ECU, DP Air Filter, DP Open Top airbox lid, integrated LED tail, dumped the old sludge and replaced with fresh Motul etc etc. Figured I should have a look at the oil strainer as per the FAQ and to my surprise, when I removed the plug/cover there was NO strainer behind it?!?!? Was at a mate's place and had to get home so I replaced the crush washer and refitted the plug then proceeded with the rest of the oil change so I could ride her home. I presume a 01 M900Sie should in fact have a strainer in there?!? Therefore I'm wondering if I should be concerned or just pick up a strainer next oil change and re-fit one then. Thoughts? Cheers Andy Title: Re: Invisible Oil Strainer Post by: dragonworld. on September 05, 2009, 03:59:29 PM Yep, both the 97 750 and the later 1000s has the strainer so I guess there should be one!!
Was there a hex type hole behind the outer plug/cap you took off?? ??? Some ham fisted type might have damaged the screen trying to get it out previously and left it out. [roll] Wont hurt to ride without it, and you can put it in without draining the oil by just leaning the bike over so it doesnt all piss out. [thumbsup] I think that screen is more to stop gear teeth and large metal flakes and chunks along with low flying birds and small furry animals more than anything else?? There are some other gentlemen on this site that would be more qualified to answer that though. 8) But if you have been riding without it up to now, I dont think a little longer is going to hurt. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Invisible Oil Strainer Post by: bazz20 on September 10, 2009, 03:34:21 AM yep dragons right its too filter all the big stuff from going through the oil pump, so its pretty important too the oil pump [thumbsup]
