Post by: LMT on September 07, 2009, 06:59:51 AM
Lets see, jobs with a W-4?  19.  That is from 10th grade to now, 29 years of working. Favorite job?  I liked them all.

I feel inadequate.

Jobs with a W-4= 3
Years of employment=22+

Favorite job? Probably the one I've had for the last 10 years. Still haven't found that elusive balance of learning, appreciation, growth, and work that I would call perfect but my current gig has its perks.

My 19 counts all the little, part time, jobs while in school and 2 jobs worked at once when under employed.

My very first job was at the Krystal Burger in Jacksonville, FL.  All during 10th grade I worked 30 hours a week!

29yrs old

6 years out of college

same employers since, started in January 2004. Moved up through a few positions and now am "lower management."

Prior to that.....I had 3 other high school and college "jobs."

favorite would have been outdoor maintenance/landscaping at some duplex condos. We did everything but mow. Maintained irrigation, trimmed trees/bushes, etc.

god I loved that job.

I haven't counted in awhile. Let's see. D*MN..26 jobs in 22 years. Liked most of 'em. Didn't like construction.. especially in Michigan winter.

27 years old, this is only my 3rd real job. (I've done lots of other small things, that weren't real jobs, but the IRS might be listening and I don't wanna pay back taxes on the $300 I made 10 years ago  [laugh] )

started working in a wood shop making signs for national parks (the ones they sell in the gift shops/ tourist traps) when I was 16. it was actually pretty fun. but the work was slow and being low man on tottem poll, got fired (plus I sucked at screen printing) [laugh] I did that for about a year and a half.

2nd job, right out of tech school, worked for the dealer for 3 years. like the people I was working with, hated the people I worked for and didn't mind the work... just could no longer see making the fat make the beast with two backss rich off my back.... on to the next one...

3rd. I own this business. actually, in a stroke of wierd luck (and small town), I'm renting the same space that job number 1 was in.. 4  years at this now. I don't see it ending soon but hope to expand it... I obviously like this one the most.

today, I'm working.. why? I don't know. none of my customers showed up, and all the parts stores are closed.. but I've got shit to do so.. back at it!

Been working semi-consistently for about ten years now.

Real(ish) jobs: 6

Best job: Probably my year teaching in Korea. Management was inept, and demanded completely asinine things, but it was still pretty fun, and on really good days semi-rewarding.

Dishwasher
Grain bagger
Carpenters helper
Go Cart Track Attendant/wrench
Security Guard
Copper miner
Cabinet maker
Remodeling contractor
Muffler/4x4 shop lackey
Forester
Economist

I have been working since I was 15 and I am 38. I've held more jobs than listed, but all the rest were off the books.  I've gone back to school several times and I now have most of a PhD in natural resource economics.  I now own my own business doing economics consulting and it is my favorite job thus far.  Probably 10 years ago I decided I wanted to own my own consulting type business and 5 years ago I got serious about making it happen.  I've been in business for about 3 years.

Before owning my own business, my favorite job was running the cabinet shop for a magazine/book distributor.  We built store fixtures for everything from high end book stores to grocery stores to truck stops.  I had a huge shop and would get a stack of the builds for the week on Monday.  I had keys to said shop and I could work whenever I wanted so long as I got the builds done in time.  I think it was the first job to give me a taste of being my own boss.  I've hated having a boss ever since.

I'm working today......

38 / 22 years working
14 W4 jobs plus 2 volunteer jobs
#13 still work there, 11+ years now
#14 current job, hit 2 years on 10/8/09

Volunteer job #2 (Reserve Police Officer) probably favorite "job". All the fun with not much of the politics/stress. #14 (Full time police officer) probably favorite job for the benefits and time off. I was just looking at my schedule for the year and figured out I will probably work 156 days this year (12.5 hour day). Only guys with a better schedule are fireman I'm guessing.

34 and have had 6 total jobs on the books.

Taco Bell in high school, a brass foundry out of school, a buyer for a distribution center, a computer support tech, a computer systems engineer and a high school history teacher.

I'm currently working on a PhD in history, so maybe there will be a #7 job sometime. I'd love to teach in Norway.

I see that is where our political differences come in  ;D

Are you doing your PhD at Akron?

I am still in my first "big kid" job. I am really sick of it, can't stand a lot of the people, but have an awesome boss and two great employees. I am looking at a large career change with the same company in October.....hopefully it works out.

Cyrus, yeah - Grad school at UA. I'm finishing my MA right now and will start the doctoral coursework next semester. I've been working on mastering the three Rs - read, write, repeat.

Lots of time spent in school for me - college + 6 years grad school + 3 years postdoc.

Have had "real jobs" for the last 9 years.  I've been at the current place for 5.5 years, they keep getting acquired and changing names though (4 different companies in that time).  At least I keep getting new business cards. [cheeky]

Well, I'm a young buck I guess. I've had only three jobs in the last 12 years, the most current being the navy for 10 of it. Sigh...good times.

Wouldn't know a W4 if it smacked me in the face. I know what wd-40 is though.  :P

22 years working, 3 jobs.

Apprentice Fitter.
Fitter working on just about everything that has a motor except cars. Favourite was working on boats, fire tenders & tugs on Sydney Harbour. All day cruising around the harbour fault finding twin V4 outboard motors when we really knew that nothing was wrong with them.  :D

Now providing drinking water to 4 million people.  [evil]

36 years old...worked since 16 yo...6 jobs total over that 20 year span.

My favorite was either #1 (Go Kart track attendant) or #2 (airline baggage handler).

My current job is the best as far as pay and insurance go...not the most enjoyable though.  :-\

Six different "real" jobs since grad school (not one of them all that terribly related to my grad work focused on economic reform in China & the Soviet Union. Didn't really even use either of the languages. I'm kinda stupid like that). Twenty plus years?  It's been all downhill since my first paying job (cash, of course) at age 15: rodeo clown at a little amateur rodeo in Mesquite, Texas.  [cheeky]
