Ok, it's been a while, I have dug myself into a bit of a stupid situation [thumbsup]

First thing, despite how it looks I am not a sucker for punishment nor do I truly enjoy working on the bike, I really want to get this finished quickly. So I finished stuffing the packing back into my cans, finally, and when I attempted to scuff up the paint that was on there it wiped right off down to bare metal. With that said, I sort of went crazy with the sanding and the cans are back down to bear metal, more or less... Now I will need to finish prepping the cans and I still have some work to do but after seeing how easy the paint came off the cans I want to remove my header pipe and re-do those at the same time, my header and cans had the same paint and to me it makes sense to do them both over at the same time. My problem is I notice the header pipe does not look easy to remove, seems the rear shock blocks my access off from it, any tips?
I am pretty good with wrenches and following directions but as a mechanic I lack confidence, any help would be greatly appreciated.
The vertical cylinder pipe can be removed but you are correct in assuming it's not easy ;D. I usually take the outside nut off with an open box end(IIRC it's a 13) and then take off the inside nut by lifting the tank and going at it from above. Once you get it loose just try applying pressure to the mount plate and taking it off with your fingers.
shoot... I am going to assume my tank being full of gas might make this much tougher than if empty... Any other tips please feel free to let me know. Is it even possible without lifting the tank? A big part of me is now thinking not to bother with the header pipe, the paint has held up on it fair enough but I was just trying to make it all match by painting at the same time, I am sure to some other people on these forums this sounds normal and not obsessive compulsive ;D
Half of me is like "screw it, the header looks fine" then the other half says "it would be nicer to do it all together"
I'm able to remove the headers with out removing the tank by using a small ignition wrench, But I think mine are 10mm... ???

Nice, this makes me hopeful!
I happened to have a wratchet wrench - made the job very easy. Just make sure you get a good one that doesn't need a lot of degrees to engage.
I didn't remove the tank or the shock - just went in from both sides. I have an S2R 1000 - YMMV.
There was another thread on this pretty recently that i bet you could find as well.

So I got my 10mm wrench and it sucks... grrrr, I just can't seem to get at it good enough to get a good turn, I have a ratchet that would probably work if I got a small extension, the one I have is too long and with no extension it's too short...
YEAH! I got it off... I bought a small ratchet elbow and it made the whole thing much easier... now prep and paint, this might need a new topic.
