Title: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: RED on September 09, 2009, 07:38:08 AM I am signed up for this Jeff's track day and will go out to set up the paddock on Wednesday night. It would be great to have some folks come out if you have the time off work. This is the last track day in September and the next one is not scheduled until late October. That is if anyone registers. If no one registers then they will not put a track day on. Trust me and the rest of the guys on here that do track days the price is not a concern when it comes to track safety and other riders. This is just peace of mind.

Ever since last years Euro Track Day that AMS put on I've had the bug in a bad way and have been preparing for this time ever since. I'm going to be working on my braking, cornering mostly. I have to get comfortable with leaning the 999 over to the max through the corners and conquering that fear. I'm hoping that Daddy Duc will come out and see how his old bike is behaving now. It's gotten some manners lately. Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: Cher on September 09, 2009, 08:58:11 AM Very cool. I'm going to miss this one though. I need the private day to get used to the new slipper clutch How are you liking that mod? Aside from sounding cool as hell, does the new clutch situation affect the timing of the gear engagement? Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: Cher on September 09, 2009, 02:50:00 PM Cool ... October. he he...I get it...heh. Cool. I may just have to make the Oct date too then! Just bolted on some more go fast carbon fiber. Hey, if I can't be fast, the bike might as well look the part. D-OH [bang] [laugh] Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: fastwin on September 09, 2009, 03:59:10 PM "It's better to look good than feel good." D-OH [bang] [laugh] Lisa, it's all because of you that I look this way. I've always wanted to emulate that picture of your old avatar/sig of you coming around the left twisty looking through the corner so well and got that totally awesome lean angle goin on. I have always respected the way you ride. So ...flatery is the compliment here maam! [thumbsup] The upside of this all is that maybe when we are both on the track people will notice the Ducati marque! (not that i'd be anywhere close to you except when you lap me!! :-\ ) I just have to ride to my bike's potential or at least a tenth of it is my hope :-\ ;D And, yes, you do looook mahvelous dahling just mahvelous, AND! holy smokes the RED helmet too boot!!! How cool is that avatar! Now I don't miss your boobies so much [thumbsup] he he [clap] Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: RED on September 10, 2009, 07:45:47 AM I'm planning on doing a private day in Oct and then the big day in Nov... Aside from sounding cool as hell, does the new clutch situation affect the timing of the gear engagement? I'll let you know next week after it's installed. I've been waiting for Italy to send it, but they went on vacation all last month as we all know. I'm just wanting to feel what it's like to slam down gears and not have the back end kick out Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: RED on September 10, 2009, 12:01:43 PM ..... I'm just wanting to feel what it's like to slam down gears and not have the back end kick out Coming into Rattlesnake off the Big Ben straight is where I was having some real issues of this. I could not stop any other way and was getting mad because I couldn't scrub enough speed off to turn in to the corner. A slipper is certainly the key for that such application. So, Bryant, what is the 'Big Day' about? Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: bryant8 on September 10, 2009, 12:38:47 PM Nov 1 is the AMS trackday at Cresson
Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: Cher on September 10, 2009, 06:34:12 PM Cool, I'm going to start saving my extra lunch money for a fresh set of tires. The ones that are on there now are from LAST October's AMS track day... Solid rocks :-X Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: lilmonster on September 16, 2009, 01:37:58 PM I have signed up for the track day. This will be my first and I can not wait. I've been planning on this since I went to the AMS day last year just as an observer. I hope to learn alot, meet some folks, and have fun.

The ones that are on there now are from LAST October's AMS track day... Solid rocks :-X Yeah I'm still rollin the same tires I put two track days on late last year. They slide in some turns.... lots of fun. I have a laundry list of things if I'm to make the last track day this year. If I get some money together for tires and clip ons, I'll try to make the last one. If not, I'm just waiting for next year and my one of these days new bike. We're working stupid hours and still shooting for our refi. Just got the buildings set up in an LLC ( finally ) so its official bank shopping time. Assuming I get the refi, then next year is a house and bike hopefully. I'll be able to spend money again lol. [thumbsup] Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: RED on September 16, 2009, 06:36:52 PM I have signed up for the track day. This will be my first and I can not wait. Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: lilmonster on September 19, 2009, 05:40:23 PM The 24th. What kind of prep needs to be done to the bike for the track? I'm thinking pull fuse for the lights, tape all the lenses, remove mirrors and be in good mechanical condition which it is. Just did service and has good tires. What else does it need? Thanks and see you there
Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: Samsonite on September 19, 2009, 06:06:56 PM Tape or remove license plate, lights, mirrors and turn signals. For most events, you can just tape mirrors. Make sure your gear is sufficient... They prefer you in leathers, but if you're running level1/beginner, you can wear textile. Good helmet, boots and gloves. Always good to have plenty of fluids(water, Gatorade etc...) gas, chair, shade (ez-up tent) or a friend you can paddock with, lol. Always remember gas, and an air guage. Those are usually my 2 most checked things when I come off the track every session. Just make a good list of stuff to bring and get plenty of rest the night before. Most people under estimate how mentally and physically taxing it is to do a track day.
Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: RED on September 25, 2009, 02:30:33 AM Well, didn't I get bamboozled! ??? ??? It didn't rain!
LilMonster how was the day? did you enjoy it? I'm catching the next one for sure! Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: lilmonster on September 26, 2009, 07:28:16 PM It was awesome. Kind of chili when we started and water running across the track on the two straights so my first track day wasn't ideal but I'm glad I went. There were only 6 bikes total including Jeff and Derek. I had the only Monster and a Hypermotard was there, everyone else was on 1098r's!.. I was nervous at first but got better as the day went on. Need to work on alot things next time. Jeff and Derek were cool even to poor country boy like myself. I'm already planning on making the open day in Nov.
I wish I could do more days but Cresson is 130 miles away, makes it more difficult but I'll be back! It was the best/coolest thing I've done on a motorcycle...so far. Title: Re: AMS Track Day Sept. 24, 2009 Post by: Samsonite on September 26, 2009, 08:27:29 PM Awesome! Glad you had a great experience. I'll be at Cresson tomorrow for a member day. Gonna be a great day..... [moto]
