Title: Help with S4 Boge-Sachs shock base settings?
Post by: Mr Earl on September 12, 2009, 11:29:22 AM
Just installed moments ago a fully adjustable Boge-Sachs shock from an S4 on my M800.  So of course I want to ride it ASAP, but need to set the rebound and compression damping to whatever the baseline settings are supposed to be.

Does anyone know the settings, or can someone point me to a reference?  I've got the Haynes manual and LY Snyder's manual, but neither cover this shock.  Thanks.

Shock absorber adjusters (fig. 24)
The shock absorber has outer adjusters that enable you
to adjust your motorcycle to the load.
The adjuster (1) located on the right side, on the
connection holding the shock absorber to the swingarm,
controls rebound damping.
The adjuster (2) on the shock absorber expansion
reservoir controls compression damping.
Turn the adjusters (1 and 2) clockwise to increase
damping, anticlockwise to reduce it.

STANDARD setting:
turn the adjuster (1) all the way in then slacken it 19
clicks. Slacken the adjuster (2) 2 turns.
Two ring nuts (3), located on the top section of the shock
absorber are used to adjust the outer spring preload.
To change spring preload, slacken the upper ring nut.
Then tighten or slacken the lower ring nut to increase
or decrease spring preload as required.
Once preload has been set as required, tighten the upper
ring nut.
