Title: 2004 S4R starting problems
Post by: Labbedds on September 13, 2009, 03:04:13 PM
I have a 2004 s4r and am having starting problems.  the bike turns on, front lights are bright and you can hear the starter trying to engage but won't turn over.   battery is newish, left on the tender over night.  i have heard that some s4r's have had this issue from dirt/buildup and its an electrical issue, anyone have any experience with this?  If I jump start it by hooking the battery up to a car/moto battery, the extra juice helps the bike start, that's the weird part.  So it will start, it will run and ride and doesn't die as i'm riding it, it's just the initial start. Thanks!

Check the connections for the main positive wires going to the starter, and the ground wire.

Make sure they're clean and tight.

Be careful with the one on the starter, make sure the stud doesn't turn when you try to tighten or loosen the nut.

Have the battery load tested.  Just because it's new doesn't mean it's still good.
