That is what is really bothering me. My kids are about the same age and gender. They all played together during one of the GP races a couple months ago and had a great time.

Condolences to his family and friends.
I am so very sorry to hear of this Mitt. :'(
Hugs to you. Please convey my deepest condolences to the family, and let his wife know that if she needs to talk to someone who has already been through this, she is most welcome to contact me.
To all my fellow riders, this cannot be overemphasized: keep it tame on public roads. They are not our own personal raceways. That's what track days are for. RIDE SAFE.

Mitt,
So sorry to hear this. I don't know David, can you tell us more about him?
This is two in a month; George in DFW area was lost to a left turning van recently.
RIP David, Godspeed.

Mitt,
I don't know David, can you tell us more about him?
I only meet him a few months ago, and rode/hung out with him several times, so he wasn't a close friend, but one of those rare people that you wanted to be their friend after talking to them for 5 minutes. I even told my wife that after the first time I meet him.
He was 39, husband, father of 2, from small town Iowa, sold wine for a living, was a bass player in a local band, had lived in a Italy for a little while, drove a 5 series BMW wagon, and rode an '08 black speed triple. He had rode dirt bikes for 30+ years, and was a very competent rider, but I think only recently got on road bikes, due to his spirited riding style. That might have been a cause, I don't know all the details, and don't really want to. It makes me reflect though that our group should have mentioned our concerns with his riding style to him months ago, and I will do that in the future if there is a similar situation.
It sounded like a decreasing radius / speed (50>30>10mph) downhill curve, and he locked the brakes and low-sided coming into the 10mph apex and hit the guard rail.
I didn't start this thread for sympathy, I wasn't that close to him, but I wanted to remind everyone else here that they have loved ones, and ride within your limits at all times.

Yes, this is a must. Either the individual will be mature and listen and learn, or he'll gaff it off. I've rarely meet anyone who meets the first description, and many who meet the second, in which case I no longer ride with them.
RIP
What is this even they were doing? Like a street race of some sort? Poker run style event?
Condolences to the family and friends...
RIP lost rider.

I have never been on it, but it is not a race or poker event. From what I understand just a gathering of non-cruiser bike riders from the flat states that converge on the curviest motorcycle roads in the upper Midwest - mainly in SW Wisconsin.

Thank you for sharing a little bit about your friend with us, Mitt. David sounded like an amazing man.

And a GOOD reminder this is, however inconceiveably sad. You might know a road inside out, but if you can't see all the way through a turn you do not know what is on the other side, and if you are already riding ten-tenths you have nothing left to maneuver with if something comes up. It doesn't matter how good of a rider you are at that point.

[<--finally steps off soap box...]
so sorry you lost a friend mitt... this is so sad to read :'(
The event is yearly, covering 4 Flat Midwestern states. I lived in Chicago for 8 years and was very active in the motorcycling community (founder of D.R.I.L.L-Ducati Riders of Illinois) therefore I'm very familiar with the event.
Looks like this year a few people wiped out as well. It sux but life goes on. Just ride safe guys.
Here's the major thread.

May he rest in peace.
Thank you mitt for the reminder, we can never have too many.
I'll keep his family in my prayers.
Ride safe
Always sad to hear about a loss of a human life, whether it be two years battling Pancreatic Cancer like Patrick Swayze or on a motorcycle.
Some of us love to ride on the edge and know that doing what we love may end in loosing our life.
In the end it is our choice what riding style we choose.
If you believe in a higher being pray that they will protect you as you ride and return you home safe and sound each time you ride.
Learn to ride correctly and ride within your ability.
Always wear the best protective gear you can and never loss your focus on the road and what's going on in front of you.
God Speed to all and RIP to the rider who left us.
Dolph
Sad news indeed. Keep these in mind no matter how or where you're riding.
Be safe everyone
Sorry to hear Mitt. :( Thanks for the reminder.
sorry to hear that,, RIP
