it's one thing to kill it on the start, but
to drop it?  ouch, come on?!

so newbie asks, "what goes through your brain that you cannot just put both feet down to prevent the drop?"
i don't get it.  short legs? panic? brain fart?

I'm guessing panic/tunnel vision about what's happening.  I was on my bicycle and saw two guys hard on the throttle down a relatively remote street and when the light turned yellow, they both hit the brakes hard in panic mode.  One guy was so focused on making the stop at the light that he forgot to put his feet down and he and the bike just fell over after making the stop.  FAIL.

I giggled to myself as I pedaled by, but I always feel bad when people drop their bikes for stupid reasons.

That vid still cracks me up even though I've seen it a million times.
Rumor had it that he still had the disc lock on.

My dad got a brand new porsche carrera and let my brother drive it. He did the classic put-in-reverse, slam-into-garage-wall.
My dad, sounded exactly the same, "no, No! NO!"

You can see he put his foot down. I think n00bs don't know where to put their foot down, or how heavy its going to be after it tips a few degrees. By the time they put enough effort into it, or think to put a foot out wide, its long gone.  [laugh]

There's no way there was a disc lock on. You can clearly see the front wheel rotates nearly two full turns.
And by the way the front-end compresses it's definitely a "I killed it, better grab a hand full of brake so I can start over..." *tip*  [laugh] [clap]

I was terrified that would be me. I'd either lay it down like that or actually die in traffic. Even though I made it, I'm still thankful nobody was rolling a camera. I mean it's a bad move. It cannot be interesting film *unless* it's the kind of film you never want anyone to see (including yourself)

On a similar note, I heard a story about a guy I know from another forum - apparently on Saturday he picked up his new Speed Triple, left the dealership, and didn't even make it out of second gear before getting stopped by the police for 100kmh in a 50kmh zone (~70mph in a 35mh zone). Immediate loss of licence for 6 months after 46 seconds of new bike ownership. _Ouch!_

Yep. The US is way too relaxed with public and personal safety laws. Just the other day, I saw a kid walking to school without a helmet. I wanted to report his parents to CPS.

What we need is a country where the people with the least tolerance for risk have the loudest voices and effectively govern the rest of us in our daily lives. [scratching head] No. That's what we've got.

Uh oh.  Someone jumped into the "don't drop your bike thread" and started wavin' the crazy stick around.  :P  FWIW, my kid will definitely be wearing a helmet to school.  Cuz she's a bit retarded.  Not jellyfish-level-retarded, but well below your average hamster.

On the third day of owning my-new-to-me first motorcycle, I dumped it on wet leaves at the parking lot at the school where I was teaching.  That was a wee bit embarassing.  That Triple story from big is just f'n brutal.

Seems like some guy by the name of Matthew Morrison (Name changed to protect the guilty) tipped their bike at the Richmond bridge toll crossing not so long ago. Do we have that on tape?

Nah, didn't tip it. Just fishtailed like crazy and *almost* lost it. But a save's a save, no?




Yah, but you got to admit, he *did* look spiffy in the matching leathers.


It seems to me that where a motorcycle and a video camera are both present, the odds of a crash are doubled, or maybe tripled.

That's a good rule. Here's another. "Don't overdo the throttle when you're in a parking lot..... behind a van....... in a parking lot....... behind a van." I can't figure out which is the lead and which is the tail end of that joke.
