Title: do i need the dealer???
Post by: causeofkaos on September 16, 2009, 03:54:22 PM
I have to replace the display on my M1100 after the wreck, got it today and i am being told dealer is required to unlock something or another. I thought it would just be as simple as plugging in the numbers off the code card i got with the bike.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

I would imagine the dealer would have to set the odometer.

Is this red key related? That's my only thoughts.

Yeah, they are not going to let you do that. Cuz if that was the case, I would spend a couple of hundred bucks and swap mine out when I get 20k on it. We would see a lot of 10 year old bikes with less than 5k miles.

it's an interesting idea, but i wonder if the dash and the ecu are mated like on the old bikes.
even if they are you're only setting off the immobilizer which the code card overrides. well unless the dash is the code storage chip location.
