C'mon guys, just think a little bit Mmick Title: Re: truck in melbourne Post by: brad black on September 26, 2009, 02:29:38 AM i've used thrifty a few times with trucks. the 3 tonne tray and van ones. cheaper to book over the net, cheaper on some week days, that sort of gear. often amazingly disorganised in the branch and make sure you get what you want when booking, or ring after booking to answer any queries, and find out who you're talking to and write it down. they told me their tray trucks have lifts, get there to be told "none have lifts, who told you that?" and the good old "did you get their name?". that sort of thing. but cheaper than others it seemed. they were about $80 a day i think, plus all the usual fees. have to book at least 24 hours ahead. they screwed up one of my bookings and i drove away without any paper work at all or signed agreement. couldn't believe they let me go.
their van bodies do have lifts, but they're a folding thing that's a bit wonky. not so good when you're trying to get a 1m square very heavy dyno fan into the back of one using a pallet truck. the trays i got were allegedly car licence ones, which the vans also are. the difference is that the car licence ones are narrower and you can't get two pallets across them i was told. although all the tray ones i got you could. they go well, little mitsubishi things. comfy too - the truck seating position really makes my body happy. i could drive one all day. i did, as it turns out. Title: Re: truck in melbourne Post by: bazz20 on September 26, 2009, 03:37:16 AM thanks brad but your not aloud to youse them on the ferry [bang]

wouldn't a moving company be easier? in as much as less agro and less need for organisation on your part, but more money easier. Title: Re: truck in melbourne Post by: bazz20 on September 27, 2009, 01:22:40 AM yes brad your right and thats the way we will go but there not cheap they charge extra for the ferry , the rent a truck would have been cheap just means i have to waight a bit longer thanks tho for you input cheers bazz

Whats the old "Cant complain about the service, there aint none!" :( I'd be interested to hear the explanation ofthat one from both the hire company's and the ferry company, doesnt appear on the surface to be any rhyme or reason. ??? Title: Re: truck in melbourne Post by: bazz20 on September 27, 2009, 10:54:11 PM ferry company makes all its money out of freight and dont want little trucks only coming every now and then unless they pay a yearly fee that the big frieght company pay as for the hire trucks there saying they have no insurance while traveling on the spirit bazz
