Title: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: Michael Moore on September 18, 2009, 05:20:55 AM Time once again for beer, bikes 'n tamales at our favorite watering hole, Zeitgeist.
People start showing up around 6:30 or so and it goes till whenever. Monster rider or not, we don't care, stop on by and hoist a pint. Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: BikerGoddess on September 18, 2009, 05:25:29 AM I'll have to miss this one since I'll be in NY with the parental units. Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: mostrobelle on September 24, 2009, 09:11:32 PM A surprisingly large crowd for a cold night, but still fun. We got cake. Mmmmm....cake.
....And I nearly got killed. I was coming off the sidewalk to get onto Valencia heading towards Market when I saw a couple of cars coming. I probably could have pulled out really fast and made it in front of them, but decided against it. One car went by and the other immediately behind him was small pickup truck. There was a gap after those two, so I pulled out behind the truck when he suddenly pulled over to the right curb. He didn't signal and I figured he saw a parking spot in front of Z that he wanted. I began to go around him on the left when he decided to make his pull-over a u-turn. :o There are cars behind me, this guy's making a u-turn, and there's oncoming traffic. Normally I'd have a better escape plan figured out, but because I'd just entered the road, I wasn't quite prepared for the situation. It was also dark. I was literally thinking that perhaps I should try to jump off my bike onto his hood to avoid crushing my right leg. I decided to go for the super-swerve instead, and it worked. I went around his nose as he was making his u-turn barely staying in the Market-bound lanes. He stopped in the middle of the road when he saw me. The cars behind me had to stop and I think a bicycle was cut off by his little stunt too. ...never had occurred to me that someone would do that right there. I shouldda known something was up when he failed to signal, but I didn't want to stop since there were cars behind me. Next time I'm either waiting for all the idiots to pass or I'm going to gun it and get in front of all of them! Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: somegirl on September 25, 2009, 03:10:07 AM ^^ :o Glad your super ninja skills protected you! [thumbsup]

[thumbsup] Let's just say that I'm real glad that I didn't have that beer! [laugh] And a little foresight might have spared me the need to practice my emergency swerving technique. Live and learn! Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: Michael Moore on September 25, 2009, 06:12:04 AM Dang girl, glad you saved it!
Never misunderestimate the capacity of drivers to do dick moves. The pull off to the right then flip a u-turn is one of my personal faves. Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: jimboecv on September 25, 2009, 09:03:54 AM Jez, H.
My thinking is if you had the beer you would have left 10 minutes later and none of this would have happen. But then I'm one to fit a beer into the scenario whenever possible. Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: slowpoke13 on September 25, 2009, 04:40:27 PM Glad to hear you came through unscathed.
It was nice to see/meet you all again. I'll stop back in again next year (maybe when it's not so friggin cold...) Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: Desmostro on September 26, 2009, 12:29:26 PM woooooe Nelly. glad that went as good as it did.
Like I was saying, working on a rocket launcher. Let's just say that I'm real glad that I didn't have that beer! [laugh] And a little foresight might have spared me the need to practice my emergency swerving technique. Live and learn! Good meeting you RB. I think that was you a got tamales with. I didn't know it was you at the time... ha ha ha . Made it Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: RB on September 27, 2009, 07:19:17 AM snip.... Good meeting you RB. I think that was you a got tamales with. I didn't know it was you at the time... ha ha ha . Nope, not me, i actually didn't speak to a single soul. Not enough pints to go introduce myself. Seemed like a large group gathered around a few tables. Seems that when the crowd is gathered around the bikes it makes for an easy ice-breaker. Chill spot, that bar, and i will be out again. The truth is, i was starting to come down with this nasty cold(but forced myself to stop by), so i weathered to pints and split. In general, the people who work at Zeitgeist cop an attitude. It gets frustrating sometimes. A great spot on a sunny day. People tend to be pretty wacky and on the "loose" side. [bacon]
They worship motorcyclists. Their motto: "Warm beer, cold women" (http://spreadgermanisms.com/files/proofs/images-san-francisco-2006-zeitgeist-500x500.jpg) (http://blogs.menupages.com/sanfrancisco/zeitgeist%20poster.jpg) But that's not the weird thing. The weird thing is that people tend to loose themselves there like tequila was somehow flowing in the air. You can find a perfectly normal lawyer like Spidey, taking his pants down and singing about doing it in the porta-potties. [cheeky] I may be embellishing a little, but not by much. Every now and then some fancy pants magazine does an article on the charming dive bars in SF. Then ZG quickly becomes the "IT GIRL" of dive bars and every preppy magazine reader with 300 miles shows up and makes the grill line longer than MichaelMoore's scooter peel-outs. Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: Michael Moore on September 28, 2009, 02:52:22 PM Dang, I was wearing my raggedy-ass, bright red Ducati jacket. What more do you people want from me?
Seriously, 'poke ambled over said hullo and it was all good. I thought you looked familiar, but without the super-dress-whites I couldn't be sure... ;D Title: Re: Zeitgeist Night - 9/24/09 Post by: slowpoke13 on September 29, 2009, 01:26:21 PM I thought you were familiar. But walked by once. When walking back I saw TOB sticker on your helmet and asked if you were a DMFer.
But yeah that's all you gotta do. |
