Title: Phoenix area riders
Post by: Duki09 on September 21, 2009, 03:01:32 PM
Who here is interested in a simple group ride around town on a weekend afternoon or evening?

A group of Ducatisi proudly cruising the streets around the Phoenix valley filling the air with the sound of our Desmodromic engines and later stop at a really nice restuarant for a good meal?

Will there be waivers to sign prior to the ride in case anyone dumps/crashes/gets dismembered/dies, etc??

Of course, I'm only looking out for your well-being Duki.

Maybe a meetup at a coffee shop or Italian Deli, then cruise to Pavillions on a Saturday?  We've done quite a few late afternoon Bartlet Lake runs that end up at Pavillions also.  I currently can't afford a really nice meal, but would love to meet up sometime for a casual get together.

Other ideas are breakfast runs - A group used to do breakfast and a run up South Mountain every so often.  Seemed like a popular activity.

Dietrich, I'd be interested in a South Mountain ride and breakfast as well as riding up to the Pavilions as well.

IZ, uh  yeah, whatever.  We will also require a federal background check, two forms of ID and a random drug test because one stupid response deserves another.  [roll]

I'm sorry Duki..that was a real sh*tty response!

You're obviously new to the valley Ducati scene so I won't be a complete azzhole.

You should ask around though regarding what has happened in the past.

Yeah Duki... don't mind IZ.  He's been away for awhile.  You'll get used to his humor eventually.  Everything that happens in AZDRA is always meant in good humor.  We save the flaming and misinterpretation for the General Monster Forum.

I'm always down for a South Mountain run.  I live around the corner from there.

ah, so IZ is just trying to be funny?

Yeah I guess I am new here

"He's been AWAY for awhile"?     ???     I'll be careful.
Maybe we should require a background check.  NO?  [cheeky]

Really everyone, I just posted a simple and legitimate idea for a ride and kinda expected legitimate responses, but I guess that will not always be the case here.  I'll try to adjust.  ;)

Well, if Jack Kerouac could live off apple pie and ice cream driving all over the country, I think I'll be OK living off lunch-and-learns at the office.  [wine]

Sunday morning 09/27 7:00 AM at the IHOP on 24th street and Baseline.  A birthday breakfast for me (36 years on the 24th) and then a few passes up South Mountain to see if Dietrich and I did a good enough job swapping my APTC for an 800 SS clutch the day before.

<Duki - Typically this is how you can start a riding thread.  Just tell us the where and when, and whoever can make it will be there.  Asking egoists like us Ducati riders for our opinions will only lead to banter.>

And "AWAY" meant Florida... although I've been "AWAY" to both degrees and would rather go back to the "Tents" than the "The Sunshine State".   :P

Just like old times!  I'd go but currently planning a roadtrip to Denver. Plans may change though.  Either way..

Happy Birthday Ryan!

+1

I loved that Oregano's-then-Pavillions meet-up a few months ago, but I think we could pick a meeting place further away so we have some good riding-together time. Or maybe just take the long way around.

One of my favorite parts of group rides is being seen together, like going down Mill Ave or arriving into the Pavillions together.

So maybe Oregano's by ASU, then down to the Pavillions.

Or (since Oregano's is usually mad busy) Gold Bar Coffee in Tempe (McClintock/Southern) and then down Mill, through Papago, then to the Pavillions.

Just some ideas.

One of my favorite parts is getting to ride cupcake when your bike breaks down or you catch a flat.  ;)

No excuse.  I currently can't afford my Ducati.

But Oregenos and a ride up to the Pavllions as Michael suggested sounds like fun.

Rule62,  First, let me wish you an early happy birthday.
I'll try to make it to IHOP, but that will depend on my mood and if I'm awake or not before 7am on Sun 27th.

Lets also not forget the old weekly Tuesday meeting at TT Roadhouse. It has its own thread but I figured I would bring it up here as well. Its a great place to meet these deviants in person. Plus, the weather in the evening has been great.  [moto]

IZ you failed at reading my post correctly. Your almost-successful attempt at mocking me didn't even make sense.

Good try though, and I wish you the best of luck next time. [thumbsup]

I know..it's Monday.   ;D

Regarding the pic..

The guy looks happy riding his bike.

Not much traffic on the road.

He's getting a tan.

His chick is on the back.

He knows he's going to have a full fridge.

He might even be getting some tonight?!

I don't know.

I just don't see where the FAIL is in all that?!

Southfork.

They also go there on that Dallas Cowboy's cheerleaders show.  Yes, I HAVE watched it but Mr Ex has it on TiVo..I'm sure!  So I don't feel bad.  I just mute it and look at the pretty girls!   [evil]

You'll be back down here for all the fun in a few weeks, right (J)R. Maximus?

I've heard of that show ....

A young girl, Debbie (I think), wants to become a Dallas Cowboy's cheerleader, but doesn't have the money to get there. So her and her friends try to raise the money for her to go to the tryouts.

I haven't seen the movie, myself, but I hear it's good.  [thumbsup]

A couple of us will be wrenching on bikes at my place on Sat and hopefuly if they start afterwards (ahhh...I mean, when we fire them right up, Rule62!) we'll be heading to the grand opening at the Scottsdale shop.  If we have a lot of time I would like to maybe head to Bartlet lake and then end up at Pavilions.  Maybe meet at the Grand opening in the afternoon, head to Bartlet Lake from there around 4pm, and end up at the Pavillions car/bike show about 7pm?

Another plan that's in the works is a run out to Salt River Canyon on Sunday, meeting up for coffee early in Glibert, heading out through Superior, Globe, couple runs in the canyon, and back to Globe for breakfast.  Then home.  Stay tuned for a new thread with details on this.

Just keep an eye out for threads, like the one Michael posted up above.  We'll give meeting times, locations, estimated routes and mileage usually.  And always feel free to post up your own ideas.

Unfortuantely I can't put a definite plan together for Saturday due to some unknowns in the repairs we'll be doing that morning.

Sounds fine - I'll check in with Michael's ride, but do hope to catch up with you guy's as I like wrenching on Ducati's myself, so always up to lend a hand / tools or just some time - and beer of course.

My bike was fine last night.  I started it up this morning..rode down Elliot a ways and discovered the speedo and tach werent moving!  So..I went back to the house, messed around with the wires and now it doesn't even start!!  ARGH!!

Blown fuse??  Not sure yet..will be the first thing I check tonight when it cools down.  Hoping to go up to S'Dale this Sat. though and the Sun morning ride up South Mtn.  Colorado has been nixed for now.

Mike, what's your cousins name, position he plays? I can use some "kudo" with the boss as she is a BYU Alum.

Watch out for hard-core BYU fans. They're nuts.

I'll give you some names to drop, though, we're all hooked up:

1) My cousin is Jordan Atkinson, #43, is BYU's 2nd string linebacker, check out his bio -- http://www.byucougars.com/Profile.jsp?ID=6938 (http://www.byucougars.com/Profile.jsp?ID=6938)
"Grandfather, Chick Atkinson, was BYUs head coach from 1949-55 and his father, Dave (1971-73), is still the Cougars record holder for career interceptions (20), interceptions in season (9, tied) and interceptions in a game (3, tied)."
So, my great uncle Chick used to coach BYU and Uncle David still holds 3 different records for interceptions. And Jordan is just a junior, so he'll start next year. He does get some good playing time, though, and he's very good.

2) My wife is good friends with the family of Shawn Doman, #42, who is the starting center linebacker. She grew up in the same small town in Oregon.

3) I'm childhood friends with Max Hall's aunt, and my mom is close personal friends with Max Hall's grandmother, Shirley. We used to live a few houses down from the Halls when we lived in Mesa. Now, Max Hall is the star of the team right now, he's the quarter back, #15, and is the nephew of Danny White, former Cowboy's QB. And except for last week's game, Max Hall has done fantastic. He is on the short list for the Heisman Trophy this year.

[thumbsup]
