Title: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: stopintime on September 24, 2009, 10:59:13 AM I've been on my knees to maintain my chain and wash the bike, I've been rolling the bike bit by bit to lubricate it and it was getting boring. I didn't want to pay $300 for the only local Ducati stand available - it wasn't even reversible.
The DMF pointed me to the solution - T-Rex-Stands are just over $100. Oscar at T-Rex was great to work with and we got it shipped and delivered here in Europe for a total of $175 [thumbsup] The local non-reversible or the reversible US competitors would have cost twice that. To me, it seems very stable and it wasn't at all scary to operate. I was sure I would drop my bike, but I wasn't even close. Lifting the bike was a one handed smooth operation - lowering it with the stand on the left side I decided to lift the stand with my foot while keeping everything under control - right side, chain maintenance, I grabbed the bars, stopped the stand with my foot and just rolled the bike off the stand. Don't forget to have the side stand down. I've not received any favors to post about T-Rex - I'm just very happy with it and to finally have my very own rear stand... This is the one I got for $105 - it also comes in black for about $100 http://t-rex-racing.com/catalog.php?item=38&catid=40&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D40 (http://t-rex-racing.com/catalog.php?item=38&catid=40&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D40) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/T-Rex010.jpg) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/T-Rex008.jpg) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/T-Rex007.jpg) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/T-Rex005.jpg) Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: DrDesmo on September 24, 2009, 11:12:23 AM Looks like a good stand, just like the original Pit Bull stands they completely ripped off [thumbsup]
Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: stopintime on September 24, 2009, 11:56:21 AM I'm not aware of any ripping off, but the added features make the T-Rex quite different - IMO more stable and more versatile. T-Rex has double vertical tubes to improve stability, it has dual/four direction lifting arm (back/forward/in/out), it has the wheel stop bar and it has the through-axle-pin to make sure the bike can't fall off the stand.
If this thing doesn't fall apart it must be the best buy for our bikes? Oh, and if it does fall apart - it's under a 35 year warranty ;) Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: DrDesmo on September 24, 2009, 12:06:28 PM I'm not aware of any ripping off, but the added features make the T-Rex quite different - IMO more stable and more versatile. having to solve the same problem dictates a similar design. Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: chisel on September 24, 2009, 04:56:26 PM I really like T-Rex. They've been very nice to me. I bought sliders from them when no other companies had them for my bike. They worked with me through the mail to find a solution. That's the kind of personal touch that will ensure I do more business with them in the future.
Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: Bones on September 24, 2009, 04:59:03 PM +1 on T-rex.
fast shipping, quality products and reasonably priced. I have bought sliders for my Monster and rear stand for my 996. Very happy with both products! Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: woodyracing on September 24, 2009, 05:23:28 PM they took a Pit Bull and added enough gadgets to not violate patent laws. The basic frame on that stand, wheels, handle even the (Pit Bull signature) zinc coating is identical to the Pit Bull stand.
As far as stability, I had a racebike sit through a hurricane (literally) on Pit Bull stands without falling, not sure how you get more stable? Concrete anchors in the ground maybe? As far as companies go, I wanted spools on my F4i a few years back and Charlie at Pit Bull actually welded the bungs on my swingarm for free and if you've seen a Pit Bull stand you know how great the weld was. Customer service does not get better than that. Not to knock the trex stand but, I have never thought to myself, "I wish I had an extra bar that would prevent the wheel from turning." The ability to switch from forward to reward facing lever arm might be ok but I am using the Pit Bull on the sprocket side 90% of the time so the lever is almost always forward anyway. IMO simple is better, precisely why I like Monsters in the first place. But, if you got a good deal on the stand, and it works for you, then I say it's a good deal. Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: S2daRk on September 24, 2009, 08:39:13 PM I agree T-Rex stands are a great value. The wheel stop on the rear stand comes in really handy when removing the wheel/sprocket.
I have a Pitbull reversible rear stand and a T-Rex front stand w/ steering stem adapter. I do feel the quality is a notch better on the Pitbull. The Pitbull is one piece and SOLID as a rock. It also feels heavier than the T-Rex (I believe the Pitbull tubing is thicker). The T-Rex stands are essentially 2 pieces with the handle screwed to the stand. On my front stand, this produces some play and flex when lifting the bike. When I used a friend's Pitbull front stand, there was zero flex. Also on the T-Rex, the 2 small pieces where the bottom of the forks rest aren't perfectly level/square, whereas my friend's stand was perfect. As far as the welds go, there is no comparison - the Pitbull welds are sweet. I'm still a fan of T-Rex. It fits the bill and it definitely does the job I need it for (general maintenance and modding). However, if I spent a lot of time on the track, I'd go Pitbull all the way around. Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: psycledelic on September 26, 2009, 01:14:12 PM Big thumbs up to T Rex. From their product to their customer service, above and beyond what I have come to expect from companies today. I had their SSS rear stand. Then I purchased their frame sliders, front axle sliders, and rear axle spools. T Rex made me a set of thru axles to mount the sliders/spools on my monsters hollow axles. With the axle sliders, I had to get a new stand to accommodate the spools. I ended up buying T Rex's front and rear race stands. I was able to get both stands, all of the spools/sliders, and the thru axles for about what a Pit Bull stand alone would have cost. More money to spend on my bike.
Conclusion: If you need a stand that works well and you have $200 to throw at it, snag a Pit Bull. If you need a stand that works well and you have $100 to throw at it, snag a T Rex. If both stands work just as good, then I would say that the cheaper one is the better one. Oh yeah, the detachable arm on the T Rex makes it easier hang on your garage wall when not in use (no handle sticking out at eye level). The wheel stop feature of the T Rex did come in handy a couple of times and it is not in the way when not in use. The basic frame on that stand, wheels, handle even the (Pit Bull signature) zinc coating is identical to the Pit Bull stand. +1 That is most definitely a Pitbull knock-off, with a few minor tweaks as necessary. The curve on the handle is even the same as the newer Pitbull stands. Looks like a nice stand though...I like how the arm can be removed and placed on the other side. I've never needed a wheel stop, but whatever. I love their patent statement at the bottom of the page! [laugh] Um, OK. Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: Latinbalar on September 28, 2009, 08:00:59 AM Dont care if its a Knock - off pitbull makes good stands to why not make it look like thiers, and for 1/2 the price. got me one and might get me one for the front.

The wheel stop on the rear stand comes in really handy when removing the wheel/sprocket. That is what the rear brake and the misses are for. She would no doubt be offended if I replaced her with a wheel stop. Could it be that Pit Bull saw the T Rex arm and decided to "borrow" their design?! Interesting! ;D Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: Triple J on September 28, 2009, 02:19:48 PM Could it be that Pit Bull saw the T Rex arm and decided to "borrow" their design?! Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: DucatiTorrey on September 28, 2009, 02:24:02 PM i love people who get pissed at a "rip off" or "similarly styled but way cheaper" just becuase they spent more money for a very similar product. All it tells me is that they bought it to be cool. Anyone who purchased a Pitbull stand for its true quality shouldn't give a flying f*ck if someone else spends less money on a similar stand. i find it entertaining. [clap]
Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: Triple J on September 28, 2009, 02:45:52 PM Not sure anyone has gotten pissed about it though...more of an observation.
I'd be pissed if I worked for Pitbull...but I don't. ;) Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: DrDesmo on September 28, 2009, 02:51:20 PM Not sure anyone has gotten pissed about it though...more of an observation. It's like: CRG vs Pazzo CRG vs Cheap Knockoffs Coke vs Pepsi etc ;D Personally, I love my Pit Bull stands ... but at the end of the day, they're just fookin' stands [thumbsup] Adam Title: Re: T-Rex-Racing - finally I got me a rear stand Post by: chisel on September 28, 2009, 04:04:05 PM I replied earlier to this posting about my appreciation for T-Rex.
The fact is, I have Pit Bull stands cause they were who I was recommended to when I wanted some stands. If I had been recommended to T-Rex first, I would have bought T-Rex. I'm sure both products are good. As I stated, their frame sliders and service have been impeccable. I haven't really dealt with Pit Bull aside from buying stands from them. Both companies are good, as far as I can tell. |
