Title: Odd idling problem
Post by: minnesotamonster on September 25, 2009, 01:37:09 PM
Having an idling issue with my 2001 m600.

When I first start it and let it idle without choke it idles normally at 1200. After I ride for about 15 minutes if I slow down the idle stays high around 3000 and will only drop down to about 1500 if a hold in the brake and let out the clutch to bring it down. If that makes sense.

On the ride into work today it was sticking higher than usual at 3500 and wouldn't come down with my usual let out the clutch trick.

Any ideas?

Tia

Normally the symptoms you descibe can be caused by.
1- the bike running lean.
2- the carbs need to be synched.
There may be other causes but those are the first that come to mind.

I'm sure someone else will chime in with more info.

Also try lowering the idle 50-100 RPM.

I had the same problem after trying to take some slack out of my throttle cable and adjusting my choke cable. I had to loosen my idle screw a little bit and it was fine.

Any work been done to your bike lately?

Thanks for the replies guys. I Backed the idle screw out a bit and that seemed to do the trick. Didn't have time for a ride though. Planning on going out today to see if it really took care of it. I'll report back.
