Title: DP Gel Ejection Seat Post by: idsteve on September 25, 2009, 05:53:45 PM Hi folks
I have an 08 S4RS with DP Gel Seat that continues to pop loose while riding. I've searched the boards and the mod by adding washers under the locking mechanism would probably work except the latch on the 08 is riveted to the base so removing and adding washers is out of the question. Anyone out there with an 08 find a solution other than bringing it in to a dealer for service? Thanks! Title: Re: DP Gel Ejection Seat Post by: Buckethead on September 25, 2009, 06:04:01 PM Is it popping loose because the locking mechanism has free play, or because the locking mechanism doesn't have room to grab the slotted stud? When I first got my gel seat, it wouldn't latch at all. The "supports" were too tall, so the latch (attached to the frame) couldn't get a grip on the notched post (attached to the seat.)
If that is the case, first: Make sure that all of the rubber stopper mounts on the bottom of the seat are screwed all the way in. Then, if that doesn't fix it: start whittling them away. They sit on round frame rails, so cutting "V" notches in them works pretty well, just try not to take too much out at a swipe. I'll check to see if there is any play in the latch as well as checking the rubber mounts and adjust if needed. The seat clicks/locks into the latch mechanism okay but after riding and moving around on the seat, it works itself loose.

Easier than cutting the bumpers. Title: Re: DP Gel Ejection Seat Post by: Monsterlover on September 26, 2009, 05:59:04 AM It's also pretty easy to drill out the rivet's, shim the latch, and re-rivet.

Was in Manhattan today, stopped by Ducati NY and Tyler (mech) fixed it up like new. No rivets on the latch but a #3 Allen... some washers under the lach and a slight mod to tighten the spring on the cable and its tight as a drum. [thumbsup] Cheers! |
