Title: Somewhat irratated right now Post by: Duki09 on September 26, 2009, 05:13:28 PM First, thanks to everyone who invited newbies such as myself on any recent rides.
I just read Michaels' post about the Tortilla Flat ride. Too late now, huh? I am less anxious to go on early morning rides anyways. I am more of a late morning/afternoon rider and may not fit in with most of you early-bird's riding schedule. So please don't take any offense if you haven't seen me on any rides so far. Now for what pissed me off. I did end up riding alone to Scottsdale this afternoon for that big so-called grand opening event. I almost didn't go at all, because I was tired, but I figured I'll ride up from Mesa and check out the fun. Was anyone up their in the morning? Was there anything there? Because I got their around 1:30 and there was NOTHING, NOTHING going on except a couple vendors and people browsing around. 1:30 in the afternoon and the food is gone and nothing is happenimg for a event lasting til 5pm. No bikini wash, No stunt rider, no food, no burgers or hot dogs you expect at that time of day. All that was left was some chips and salsa and a few cans of pop and bottles of water. Oh yeah, there was a popcorn machine......yaay. [popcorn] Not much seemed to be on sale as far as merchandise. Most everything was at the normal high retail price. I didn't go their for a $91 Ducat shirt. A grand opening event that doesn't even last through the afternoon??? I don't get it. This was a huge waste of my time. So I am somewhat irratated now wondering if they even had what they advertised for their grand opening or just a cheap ass stunt to get people to visit their new store. Obviously a great sign that this store won't last for long if this is their business practice. There was more action going on at Hacienda HD and that isn't saying much. Title: Re: Somewhat irratated right now Post by: IZ on September 26, 2009, 08:17:14 PM I arrived at exactly 1:00 pm..had a hot dog, a drink and mingled while the stunt rider made a few passes. Deitrich, Ryan, Dawn & Fred showed up about 1:30. Right before they arrived, I saw the stunt rider dressed up up like he was leaving. We all had tacos about 2-ish. I left, I believe at the same time you did. I think we were next to each other at the light in front of Hacienda?
I think majority of the activities took place around 11-12? I heard the bikini carwash was at the Honda dealer? I think that's what the gentleman from one of the booths said? I'm not sure where the discounts were or what they were raffling? I know that there were a lot of demo rides going on. Right though..not much going on. Still..a lot of people so good turn out! COMPARED to the Ducati Scottsdale 3 years ago!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o I still have my free t-shirt and pics from that Grand..porno..I mean..err..umm..opening! Sorry the day didn't go so well for you. As for the early times... they're just to beat the heat and traffic. As the season sets in the times will get later. Beleive me, I am not a morning person at all. I just about fell asleep on the 51 on my way to swap my clutch out this morning at 8:00 AM. The riding is just now getting good here in AZ. I can understand the discouragement you may feel here at the beginning. Hang in there. Lots of good rides/times/folks are in store for ya. Title: Re: Somewhat irratated right now Post by: Michael on September 26, 2009, 11:37:24 PM Since my Tortilla Flat ride was earlier than previously planned, I headed over to the Scottsdale thing. My mom actually lives down the street from there, just southeast of Hayden and Cactus.
Anyway, I got there a little earlier than you guys, and it was mad busy. I think it was just too hot to hold anyone's interest after 12:30pm. * shrug * So I am somewhat irratated now wondering if they even had what they advertised for their grand opening or just a cheap ass stunt to get people to visit their new store. Obviously. [roll] I think maybe you set your expectations a little too high there. Although, I agree with you -- I was a little disappointed. Instead of some cheap buys, all I got was two different people try to fit me for a new Arai helmet (Corsair V for $800). That wouldn't have been bad, except they acted like I had never owned a helmet before even though I was holding my custom-fit Shoei in my hand while talking to them. One guy was like, "Have you ever been fitted for a helmet before? You'd probably be a medium." Medium? Maybe you've never been fitted for a helmet before, ya nut. Anyway, I enjoyed seeing the bikes. I didn't stay long, I just stopped by to look around. I am more of a late morning/afternoon rider and may not fit in with most of you early-bird's riding schedule. Me too. Don't worry, with the weather getting better, there will be lots of good trips coming up. In fact, I enjoy a good weekday Tortilla Flat run, if you're ever available Mon - Fri. I find it's a little easier with less people on the road.
