Title: danaid's 696 Post by: danaid on September 27, 2009, 07:19:52 PM Greetings everyone!
Well, after 4 months of trying to sell my bike with no success, I decided to keep it for a while and ride the hell out of it! I added these Sato rear sets to get the mods / money flowing again. Was trying to upgrade while the miles were low and the bike was mostly stock. First silver ceramic coating I've seen on a 696.... so ya happy with the finish? I'm very happy, the finish is called stainless steel, and it's slightly polished to a satin look. The local company had only 5 color choices and this one seemed the "best" to me, the best meaning that the color samples looked like crap and I was worried about how the finished product would look. those rearsets look very nice though Title: Re: danaid's 696 Post by: w7ck7d on September 27, 2009, 10:00:31 PM I like the rear set.. [thumbsup]

Adding the Sato rearsets will finish mine off (for a while) what position did you set them up, I notice they don't have an option for a stock position. Any "issues" encountered with the install ? Title: Re: danaid's 696 Post by: Raux on September 28, 2009, 08:53:16 AM agreed but has anybody done this? working on it. gonna find a way to smooth the casting first. taking it off is easy. put the bike on an engine lift or hang the rear end by the subframe. put somthing under the swingarm to support it when you take off the shock (else it will fall on your exhaust) take off the wheel. take off the rear brake. take off the chain guard. take off the chain. take off the chain/swingarm protecter. take out the twin side bolts. Not sure, but take take off the rearsets (mine were off). remove the following: swingarm pinch bolt. remove the circlip on the right side of the swingarm shaft. remove the shock from the swingarm (BE SURE YOU HAVE SOMETHING UNDER THE SWINGARM TO SUPPORT IT). slide the swingarm shaft out. remove the swingarm. take the miscellaneous clips and rearbrake bolt out. i might have missed a few things, but that's the simple version. Title: Re: danaid's 696 Post by: redial on September 28, 2009, 09:16:30 AM the black satos look decidedly delicious for sure.
my only question to everyone with the satos is..... dont chicks ever beg you for a ride? i get a lot of requests to ride on my POS 2002 750, which is the only reason i havent gotten rearsets yet. (rizomas too expensive) is it just the wife isnt into riding? or has her own? or you have a 2nd bike for touring id imagine a red 696 is a total babe magnet cheers, looks fantastic again! Title: Re: danaid's 696 Post by: DucatiTorrey on September 28, 2009, 11:07:23 AM there were also rumors of a tubular steel rear swing arm, ever happen? any more news? if im going through the trouble i=of removing mine, i want a new one all together. DSW is bad enough.
Title: Re: danaid's 696 Post by: danaid on September 28, 2009, 01:14:31 PM . There is a stock position, also noted on their web site as "0" on their chart. the chart gives you in millimeters the different positions. For me, I positioned the pegs as low as possible, which isn't much. I compared them to the stock pegs and there was only about an inch difference in lowering the pegs. It seems that these are more of a racing type rear sets because they have the majority of the adjustments to make them go up, and back like for a track bike.Adding the Sato rearsets will finish mine off (for a while) what position did you set them up, I notice they don't have an option for a stock position. Any "issues" encountered with the install ? (http://i637.photobucket.com/albums/uu91/Spencersmoto/DucM696MivvSuonoFullCarbon7-28-0900.jpg) One issue I had was when un bolting the stock left side rear sets not noticing that one of the two lower bolts also held on the kick stand(I don't own any type of stand except my wife or buddy holding the bike up rite) so while looking down, focusing on removing the rear set the bike comes crashing down on my head, pinning me in the sitting position. It was very funny and I'm glad it landed on something soft like my head and not the hard ground. Also remember not to over tighten the shift linkage. Everything else is pretty straight forward. I don't know what bothers me more, the rough texture or the oxidized black look. Title: Re: danaid's 696 Post by: DucatiTorrey on September 28, 2009, 02:19:10 PM would be really cool to see a darker black, maybe even gloss. Might scratch down there though.

I don't know what bothers me more, the rough texture or the oxidized black look. yeah, thats one of the reasons i haven't gotten rearsets. because it really shows off that ugly swing arm. i never really liked the stock ones, but once i powder coated those black, i actually liked the look of the stock ones. that reason and the fact my son loves to ride on the back... I think I remember hearing that they were working on a tubular swingarm.... Which would be awesome, but I haven't heard anything, and nothing on their website....Hopefully we get some updates on their projects... |
