As fall approaches for us northern hemisphere guys... apparently the deer are out again.

found out a local monster rider hit one at 200kph. needless to say neither he nor the deer survived.

and another reminder... tires... near the end of the season and tires have mileage on them.

another local rider had just finished a day at Nuremburgring. on the way home his bike started shaking violently, a 748, but he was able to hang on and slow it down and take it to the side of the road. his tire was disintegrating at 160kph.

just two stories i heard today from the local shop guy (the 748 rider)

I have to be careful around here this time of year. There are certain roads very close to my house that is not uncommon to see 20+ deer milling around, very close to the road.



I hate those things. Too many around here. Need a controlled hunt.

High Urban deer population without a natural predator is not good.

Also some things to remember as the season change - leaves! Even when the road is dry, clumps of leaves can still be went, and very slippery when there's a layer or two between you and the tarmac.

In a similar vein - The pavement temps are lower, lending to less grip, especially in the morning when they might have a near invisible layer of moisture from dew.  On the 1st cool morning in a while here, I heard on the radio news of a number of bike accidents during the morning commute when the conditions were exactly that.

Yesterday, I had to stop for sheep and horses. It was kind of cool slowly pushing through those wooly beasts, but thinking about if I'd come up on them going full out on a corner made me that much more watchful. Of course both groups left plenty of treats on the road. It's an awesome road (hwy 35 in Utah), but with the critters, dookie, and cattle guards, you've got to be careful.

Coming down from Mt. Palomar years ago I came around a corner to see a very large bull standing in the middle of the road.  I stopped in time and didn't hit him, but he looked like he wanted to hit me!  I gently turned around and went back the way I came.

there's a reason the first day of deer season is practically a state holiday in PA.


my ride home takes me through a state park. those make the beast with two backsers know they are protected there. i swear if they had the ability they would just give you the finger as you try to get them out of the road.

I think if I am going to hit a herd of anything it would be sheep.. They are so fluffy you would just softly land on their mangled carcasses (carci?)..

Come to CT. We have more deer than we know what to do with. The hunting licenses are ridiculously easy to get (contrast that with the pistol permits [bang] )
