Title: ethanol in our gas Post by: hihhs on September 29, 2009, 08:27:26 PM Just had my lawnmower serviced. The mechanic said the gas with ethanol (from the pump) caused the problem. Out of curiosity I called the mechanic that services my car (Audi) and asked him if ethanol could cause problems. He said he recommends his customers with European cars run non-ethanol gas.
Have any of you had problems with this in your Ducatis? Title: Re: ethanol in our gas Post by: DRKWNG on September 29, 2009, 08:41:30 PM Yep. The ethanol is attributed to cause the dreaded tank swell that seems to happen to almost all Ducatis with plastic tanks. Aloha sells their "aloha classic" fuel here that does not contain ethanol. It is a little more expensive than normal petrol, and you have to get it at boat harbors but it sure smells nice. ;)
This is also talked about in the "E0" thread. Title: Re: ethanol in our gas Post by: teddy037.2 on September 30, 2009, 07:19:11 AM there was some thought that the e10 fouled up my old sparkplugs.
but the NGKs have seen more miles and held up, and I get my gas from the same place 99% of the time otherwise it hasn't been horrible to me Title: Re: ethanol in our gas Post by: MadDuck on September 30, 2009, 07:42:30 AM There seems to be only oblique anecdotal evidence of E10 causing running problems. The issue with the fiberglass & plastic fuel tanks is more prevalent though and that's why ethanol free gas is being made available to the marine community. For a short while we had a rash of intank fuel pumps going out but that has gone away. If there were real issues with the gas the shops would be full of crappy running cars. I think it's pretty safe to say that almost 100% of the problems are non-fuel related. E10 has more socio-political-economic issues and faults than performance faults.

[cheeky] I heart ethanol. just not so much tomorrow Title: Re: ethanol in our gas Post by: hihhs on October 02, 2009, 08:14:54 PM Well, I put seven bucks worth of ethanol-free gas in my bike today and put about 35 miles on it. I can't say that I noticed any difference.
Your bikes have flames shooting out the exhaust too, right? Title: Re: ethanol in our gas Post by: DRKWNG on October 02, 2009, 08:16:22 PM Flames? No. Small furry animals? Hellz yes!
