anyone get an invite?
discuss....
I just read the wiki on it.
I'm still not sure what the hell it's supposed to do.
I am slowly figuring out what the make the beast with two backs. I'm halfway through the video here:
http://wave.google.com/help/wave/about.html (http://wave.google.com/help/wave/about.html)
Collaborative, content-rich, real-time email is how I would sell it. A personal forum that plugs into other apps is another way to look at it.
That it cannot be summarized in a 2-3 minute video may bode unwell for the adoption of this. I will be sure to give it a try, but I see this benefiting Google more than it will the users at first - they just have to have one place where all the content of the wave is stored, and then provide different front ends for access to the same content (email, blog, web albums.) I reckon it will save them storage space and CPU cycles. Clever, but it does not really excite my inner nerd.

Yep. Waiting on a few other's invites to come through so we can experiment with the "collaboration" bit... Not a lot of use with only 4 or 5 contacts so far...
I'm not 100% sure I actually understand it yet, but I know one of the guys on the team that built it, and he's one of the smartest people I know - the kind of smart that when he says "it'll change the world" I sit up and take notice...

ok......so 1st round of invites was pretty much targeted.
sounds like it would be useful for workplace collaboration.
what else?
From what i read its a new way to email/instant message. So like now when i send an email or IM both the sender and reciever get a copy of that message and so does the reply. With this the message is one file that just gets added to. So when i initiate the message it gets sent to a server. the reply is then added to that one file. No more taking up space on multiple computers. Hence the wave cause the more the back and forth the message goes the bigger it gets.
its just combining the mish mash of social networking and putting into an app. for business.
and it appears to be more or less real time as well? (all connections being equal)
If anyone has spare please send me an invite too! I would greatly appreciate it. ;D
Me three- Lotus Notes is sucking my will to live
does anyone know if this allows you to live edit the same document collaboratively while say, on a conference call? because that would be awesome.
for example, I just went through over 5 months of lease negotiation, passing the document back and forth with things getting lost in the track changes. the ability to do that would have shaved months off of the negotiation time.
i can see where this is going to greatly alter the way group projects get done. my college degree was almost all group projects and i would love to have all that time i wasted waiting on other people in the library back!
i'm excited and hope i get my invite soon! although i was excited about google voice and haven't even used it since i got my invite....
Went to the site, didn't watch the video yet. Trying to figure out how to wrangle an invite. I did sign up for "something".
For me, if it is what I think it is, it could be very helpful in business. I am getting ready to roll out a site for telecomm tech support. I've envisioned 3 levels of support- e-mail, real-time telephone, and real-time PC control (like gotoassist.com). If Wave allows video conferencing, it would be a real +.
I'm off to watch the video.
apparently many find it baffling:

I have a line on an invite. They aren't instant invites so I have no idea how long it will be before I get mine. It could be minutes, it could be months.
Nor sure if I want to use it after reading this: :D
