Title: I hate you lot Post by: Justo on October 01, 2009, 02:05:13 PM So, I was happy with buying a new bike.
"Thats all I need" I tell myself. In fact I convinced myself. Then while waiting for delivery I find the DMF and start reading, joining in on posts and having a giggle at the vast vairety of degenerate yet accomodating funny members on here riding monsters. And then i read about the Bling. which, before my Monster days i thought was just left to those Rice racing evo types. pfft. Not so I soon discovered. Then I go out to Concourse and see some monsters in blinged state. Converted. [bang] Arggh. now I wanna start modding everything but the 696 sticker. And thats only becuase I havnt come up with what to change the sticker to yet.... Any way my questions is: After removing a part. Do you recommend keeping it, or selling it to pay for more parts? And if I keep it, how long do you think before I have enough spares to beuild a complete new bike..... What do you lot do? BTW. I don't really hate you lot. Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: vossy on October 01, 2009, 02:08:55 PM you could keep all your original parts and setup your own parts shop for 696 owners. [laugh]
Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Jukie on October 01, 2009, 02:17:45 PM yes you could do that, or just incase you have an acco you got replacement bits. Not that is wish this on anyone. also it is good to have spares
Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: mattyvas on October 01, 2009, 02:23:13 PM Keep'em, until you have a spare to your spare then sell the OEM parts.
Spares are always handy. When were you at Concourse? did you meet anyone from the board? Enjoy your new bling addiction! There is no cure Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Justo on October 01, 2009, 02:38:57 PM Keep'em, until you have a spare to your spare then sell the OEM parts. Spares are always handy. Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: FIFO on October 01, 2009, 02:59:55 PM Woohwooh aah Sucked in with a capitol S [laugh] they got me too, Bastards. ;D I was lucky enough to buy a secondhand average condition monster so a few replacement parts and bling were necessary. But i think it would be easier just to buy a frame ,engine, wiring loom and go from there. [roll] Hence my avatar is fitting Dr Phil you /we need make the beast with two backsing help [laugh] Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: roy-nexus-6 on October 01, 2009, 03:07:45 PM I've kept all my parts.. just in case I want to return the bike to stock condition. Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Betty on October 01, 2009, 03:15:07 PM But i think it would be easier just to buy a frame ,engine, wiring loom and go from there. [roll] Spot on. This is where we have fallen down in the past when someone has suggested we should have enough parts to build another bike ... people tend not to have spare frames and engines. Also shows how Some people keep the stock bits until they realise they are kidding themselves and that the bike is never going back to stock and any damage will be replaced with more aftermarket goodness. Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Justo on October 01, 2009, 03:46:55 PM Wow. Not much help here. Keep it all you say. Now I need a bigger house with bigger garage. So I have to now mod the house. Or perhaps convert the newly appointed nusery (due in beginning of Jan) back into a workshop.
Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: brimo on October 01, 2009, 05:20:44 PM There are some who think that blinged monsters are a bit like those blinged WRXs, Supras and EVOs, they all start to look the same after a while and to own a stock one with zero bling is really expressing your individuality and good taste. [evil]
Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: heatherp on October 01, 2009, 05:21:37 PM Ha Ha you have been got big time [laugh]. It's taken them 3 years to get me blinging my bike and that only started due to a faulty wheel bearing [bang].
I will be keeping my old parts unless someone more needy requires them. You may need to put OEM (legal) parts back on if [leo] is not happy. Not saying that all bling is illegal but sometimes [leo] may not know all the regulations just like I don't. As to meeting up with board members, go on one of the rides, exchange mobile numbers (via pm). We are just as much fun in real life. The Sydney members used to meet up on Thursday nights but I think other things have taken priority lately (babies on the way, track bikes to work on etc) Maybe the NSW members should start a pregnant/new bub/deserted monster SO social gathering! [cheeky] Must be something in the water up there. Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Big T on October 01, 2009, 05:24:27 PM I'm a "Stock Part Keeper" as well......
Although some bits have gone to good DMF homes.... [thumbsup] I often go into the garage and say to myself that I'm going to sell all this stuff... But never do.... [bang] One day...... [evil] That I can understand too. In trying to be different we all become the same. See the "emo" phase. Though I think they all committed suicide. I hope my fascination won't leed to that. Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: madalf71 on October 01, 2009, 05:30:42 PM Welcome Justo.
Bling is good...enough said, and every Monster is different. Where to stop is often the problem! I keep all OEM parts, has been a good re-sale point with previous bikes. Bigger garage, but of course, just extended mine out another 7 metres. Cherrio...may the bling be with you! Madalf. [thumbsup] Almost two conflicting views there: Yes the Monster is made for being modified as evidenced by the million page colour bling book that comes with every purchase ... do they still do that? But few people actually purchase from the bling catalogue because it's so overpriced. Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Justo on October 01, 2009, 10:25:11 PM Almost two conflicting views there: Yes the Monster is made for being modified as evidenced by the million page colour bling book that comes with every purchase ... do they still do that? But few people actually purchase from the bling catalogue because it's so overpriced. Yes they do, allong with clothing, apparel etc. I got 4 booklets all glossy and printed beuatifully when I bought my bike. Oh and a manual thats bloody tiny and printed 2 colour. Bit like "oh, here's your bike and instructions, blah blah, blah, by the way have you seen all the other really nice stuff we sell, you got any money left? - perhaps another loan?" Cheeky monkeys. Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Spider on October 01, 2009, 10:43:03 PM I'm a seller/giver. I've got limited space and if I sell it...I want it to go to someone who sees the canvas as blank anyway. My bike had some bling on it....and I just change it for my bling....sold the owners old bling and bought different bling...it all works.
tomorrow I'm doing the drivetrain.... do you reckon there's a bloke out there who will say....yeah....I like the bike but that DID/AFAM stuff is crap, do you have the stock carrier cause I like the idea of bushings backing out....or....I don't really like Ohlins....do you have the stock Sux shock? If it's aesthetic, then keep the stock part in case your image doesn't go with the buyers... if it's performance.....sell the stock part for a little cash It's it's non-stock bling....sell it....it will be treasured by another DMFer! Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Justo on October 01, 2009, 10:50:50 PM If it's aesthetic, then keep the stock part in case your image doesn't go with the buyers... if it's performance.....sell the stock part for a little cash It's it's non-stock bling....sell it....it will be treasured by another DMFer! Ahhh. yes. thats just makes pure sense. Thanks for cutting through the clutter and Now watch this space, Ill may have some stock pre-performance bits for sale. if anyone here (which i doubt being in blingville) wants to buy. Nuffin too fancy. Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Yellow Meanie on October 04, 2009, 11:18:10 PM Hi everyone, my name's Mr Meanie, and I am a bling addict...
Like Loony, I'm a bit of a tight-arse. I'll either scour the interweb for a really good deal, or just do stuff myself. My rearsets were 2nd hand from Matty, clipons and frame plugs also 2nd hand from Dannog. Clutch cover, is actually a stock item I bought from "Spider Imports", then cut/shaped/painted myself. Bar-end mirrors are cheap ebay CRG knockoffs, and the pipe hangers I made myself out of scrap! Top triple is a "blemished" item from CAcycleworks. Oh, the tail chop cost me nothing too. I just chopped bits off, then made some bracketty bits out of scrap stainless. So yeah, she's "blinged", but in the cheapest way possible [thumbsup] And I have kept all my stock parts too. Just in case ;) Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: goldFiSh on October 05, 2009, 03:47:32 AM Hi everyone, my name's Mr Meanie, and I am a bling addict... Like Loony, I'm a bit of a tight-arse. The came from Bike Monkey. He was cheaper than PJ's [thumbsup] Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: CairnsDuc on October 05, 2009, 04:02:20 PM Hello, My name is Cairns Duc, I am also a Bling Addict...
I started out on the lighter stuff, Nervous about damaging my new found fun It was controllable, simple, a Carbon Fiber piece here, a billet piece there... Simple Harmless fun........... I'm in Control The Addiction worsens, you find your self wanting more and more. The Simple stuff, just doesn't offer them same hit anymore, so you find yourself looking deeper into the Monster forum and suppler websites, looking at the more expensive parts of the performance catalogue Need another fix........I'm still in Control. I know I'll order a Termi kit/ECU and Air filter, Oh yeah, it feels good But then it happens, you realize you have lost control, The bling Controls you! :o You do a simple order for some simple Maintenance parts, and you find some sneaky Bastard has put a heap of New expensive toys in the order as well, Bastards! Just because it was on the original order I placed and I signed the credit Card slip, it is NOT my Fault, Oh yes, I'm in Control! You think nothing about tearing your bike to pieces, leave it split in 2 and unable to be ridden for 2 weeks, just so you can paint a swing arm.... You add another week to that time frame because you are waiting for 2 Titanium bolt's to arrive from the other side of the planet, you keep telling your self, it's only time, I'm in Control..... You find your self doing things you thought you would never do, "Hey attacking my bikes frame with a Hacksaw, Sounds like a good Idea!!!" "I need to replace my Brake pads, I know, I have a better Idea, I'll order a complete Brake upgrade Kit at 10 times the price, yeah, that makes perfect sense!" You often lie awake at night thinking about the next bit of Bling you can put on, you catch yourself staring at your Monster late at night after everyone esle has gone to bed, trying to figure what else can I do! There must be something else I can put on it! The whole while in the back of your mind a voice keeps saying "I'm in Control, I'm in control, I'm in Control I'm in Control I'm in control I'm in Control..... It's only when you have Scarpered over your next door neighbors fence with there Plasma under your arm, that finally you have to admit, You have an Addiction :'( Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: Yellow Meanie on October 05, 2009, 05:10:08 PM The windows in my house are hinged on the top and have a winder on the bottom edge.
You turn a little lever which pushes out a linked, chain looking thing, which pushes the bottom of the window out. A couple of them were pretty stiff, so I had them downstairs on the workbench. Not a hard job, just undo a couple of screws, clean them out, grease them up and put them back together. I was at the bench, cleaning one of these chain things, while staring lovingly at my monster. I noticed my extra shiny and clean chain, as I had cleaned it after my ride up the coast. I then looked back at the window winder, back to the bike chain, then up to my can of Bel-Ray. ;) Now both those window winders have silky smooth operation. They'll stay nice and clean, and won't fling off any grime onto the glass if I wind too fast ;D But now I have to take off the other 12 or so I have around the house, so I can do them too [roll] It seems my "Bling Addiction" may be spreading... The "Ducati Frankensteino". Has a great ring to it. [laugh] Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: signora monster on October 06, 2009, 09:45:24 PM Wow, sounds like I may have to bling things up a bit now. I feel a bit like the odd one out. Damn peer group pressure! [thumbsup]
Title: Re: I hate you lot Post by: mostro900 on October 06, 2009, 09:50:38 PM Resistance is futile.
For almost 2 years I held off doing anything to my first monster - I figured that with everyone else blinging theirs, mine would be the only 'original'. Well, it was all going well until I was forced to change the clutch slave and then it got its hooks in.
