Title: New instrument panel cover Post by: ElCap on October 02, 2009, 10:44:08 AM Help!!! I've got a crack in the lens on my instrument panel on my monster S4 which causes water to get in and short circuit the electronics. Anybody know where I can get a new? Can't find it anywhere on the web, and in the spare part manual the instrument panel is listed as one part. Seem a little unnecessary to but a new panel which cost a lot of dough when all I need is a new cover.

Make your own. You should be able to get a piece of acrylic or lexan from a plastic supply shop (something UV stable, be sure to tell them). Then just use a hole saw without the pilot drill to cut a circle same size or larger than the stock one. If it's too large, you'll have to do some sanding. Then install it the same way the stock one was. I did something similar with some aftermarket taillights, replacing the clear lenses with smoked ones. I don't have a drill press, so I had to cut a piece of wood with the hole saw, THEN remove the pilot drill and clamp the acrylic between 2 pieces of wood, the top one with the hole I just cut. The top one acts as a guide to keep the hole saw on target. Like blasting wamp rats in my T-35. Worked like a charm, and was totally free because my local shop had a broken piece of smoked acrylic that they just gave me. Okay... so maybe a little FHE. They're not much bigger than two meters. [thumbsup] Thanks, I am in the same boat, this was informative. |
