Title: My S4 backfired when I went to start it. Why?
Post by: eichh on May 24, 2008, 12:43:20 PM
I went to start my 01' S4 and it backfired just once but it did it one other time on me. Could it be bad gas? Its only been 2500 miles since it's valves and belts were done. Any ideas or is it nothing to worry about

Leaky exhaust pipe connections a possible culprit?

Unless it's doing it regularly, I wouldn't sweat it.

Sometimes you will have a charge of fuel in the cylinder and the ignition will fire it off with a bang. no big deal, kind of like doing key bangs by flicking your kill switch and loading up the cylinders then torching them off. Not good for the exhaust packing but once in a while its will do little harm.
