Title: pros/cons changing actual wheel size
Post by: djrashonal on October 04, 2009, 06:27:25 PM
There is a guy who is selling a set of black 695 wheels. I've got an S4. I was gonna paint my wheels but i think it would be cheaper to buy these and have a spare set.

Any pros and cons in decreasing the size of your rear wheel[4.5" vs 5.5"]?

I wouldn't want to reduce wheel and tire size on an S4.  Your S4 has a lot more power than a 695.

sure you got those Tq numbers right?

I wouldnt go down any bit on the rear. but the front is cheap enough to have as a spare.

Those 695 wheels are 3-spokers, significantly heavier than your OEM 5-spokers.

IMO, not a good idea to go narrower.

this brings up a good question. from shear numbers when should a switch be made from the 160 to 180 tires?
why is a 180 required for the S4?
seems he could benefit from the quicker handling of the 160.
is there a limit to the 160 as far as hp/tq ratings?

I'm not aware of any specific limit. 696 has more power than my 800, but has 160 vs my 180.
It's about the amount of grip, maybe vs easy handling. Any tire width will slip when enough power is applied - a larger tire will do so a little later. So, I guess it comes down to personal preference.
