Sharkskinz makes a good product from my experience. They're light and strong.

The fit is usually spot on. I don't know if they offer a street upper for the 749. You could cut the openings for the lights.

Hmm a SF 749 would be fun.

Put some bars on it. . .

i have a 99 m750 that is going to be finished this spring.

i have thought about the sf route, but it would be cool to put the fairings back on. there are a ton of hong kong fairings on ebay.the bike is red and from what i have read on the forums the reds are different. even though i think it is a little tacky, i am tempted to get the xerox race replica set. $520 shipped. i helped a friend put some ebay fairings on his r6 and the fit was actually pretty good.

i don't know what to do. help.

what do you guys and gals think of the race replica fairings, tacky or cool?

for a  good read and great information about the 749 go here
http://www.ducati-superbikes.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=39 (http://www.ducati-superbikes.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=39)
as far as race kits
that's all personal opinion. you'll get 4000 different answers on here. it's your bike. if you like a particular rider or team and don't mind the cops thinking ... hmmm he likes racing ;)... then got for it.
IMO the classic red or yellow.. or for the 749 black look great.
but i saw this great 748 one time. he took off all the fairings except the nose... wow. just awesome.

from what i have read on the forums the reds are different.

The 05 749 dark had the "old" swingarm from the orig 999. The Red STD, gloss Black STD,  S's & R's got the new one ... And thats a good thing.  [thumbsup]

I've got a Hong Kong Fila replica set on my 996 right now, and the fit is good. The finish certainly isn't as good as a real Fila bike, but it works. I hunted down and purchased a stock red fairing set, but I'm leaving the Fila on for now, so I don't think they're tacky.  :)

Sharkskinz does make street bodywork for the 749/999. It's not cheap, but the quality is top shelf. If in a similar position and had the funds, I'd get the Sharkskinz, pre-drilled with dzus fasteners attached. Then, I'd take the whole set with the tank and have my painter pray it all up.

I've used several brands of less expensive bodywork in the past, includeing Hotbodies and Cheetah. They were worse than shit compared to the skinz. Buying the Ebay stuff is a crapshoot, some is pretty good, some is so horrible I wouldn't put it on a bike.
