er/i have been rebuilding a crashed 696 and just about have it complete. I have a problem....I started it up and it started instantly but it instantly jumped up to 7000RPM and stayed there. The throttle is all the way closed and choke is off. when I look down through the air box the butterflies are closed. Can anybody help me? I really do not want to take it in if possible. Thanks
there is a hose/ nipple on each intake manifold that's supposed to be connected to the EPA-cannister, if those hoses and their tiny restrictor aren't fitted, it's possible enough air could leak to run at a higher than idel rpm in neutral....but it seems more likely that the butterflys are not really closed, they should be all but fully shut, perhaps only 1/32" open.....there are also idle air screw adjusters on eack manifold but i doubt that they can be opened enough either, to raise the idle that much.......
I'd think the ecu wouldn't provide enough fuel to run the engne at high rpm unless at least one throttle is open/stuck etc
