Post by: DucLeone on October 09, 2009, 04:23:04 PM
well it's getting nasty out there quick!
tomorrow i be building my service bench
see here www.hoosierhooligans.org/forum/accessories-and-mods-forum/ (http://)$38-servicebench/
after that work beginns

Q #1, to remove my swingarm for powder coating i will need to open my chain what tool do you reccomend?
Q #2, can i reuse the link i opened up or do i need to get a new master link?

Q #3, the chain is OEM should i upgrade to aftermatket chain, if so what kind?

Q #4, if... i change the Chain should i change Sprockets as well (bike only has 6700 mi)

Q #5, i would like to PC my Clutch side engine cover, is there a hard gasket behind it or is it a glue type seal ( i so what should i replace it with? )

that should be enough questions for now

check out the alternative parts thread there is a good $25 tool that does it all except grinding off the rivets ends

Q #2, can i reuse the link i opened up or do i need to get a new master link?

no, buy a new one. Personally id buy 2 just to keep the other as a spare. it comes with lube and the above
tool will  install it for you as well.

Q #3, the chain is OEM should i upgrade to aftermatket chain, if so what kind?

THe S2R800 comes with the xring DID chains which are pretty good from what people say. Dont waste your money
      kill your chain first!

Q #4, if... i change the Chain should i change Sprockets as well (bike only has 6700 mi)
    see above

Q #5, i would like to PC my Clutch side engine cover, is there a hard gasket behind it or is it a glue type seal ( i so what should i replace it with? )

isnt the pic you posted the clutch side? It looks good though! Ive been wanting to do that on my bike but ive been to lazy... i have my own PC shop and im still too lazy lol. it looks sexy though.
hit up CA-CYCLEWORKS.com for paper gaskets they are 11tybillion times better than liquid gaskets.

Looks good still. What kind of liquid paint did you use? Im either going to end up doing a high temp Powder or just using VHT matte.

That clutch cover looks quite nice, I have an extra I was going to powdercoat--is there a reason the dealer said it wasn't good? just the high temp? If I'm just going to high temp spray is is there any reason I couldn't just leave it on the bike and mask everything off?

the reason was that the Media blasting could get into the oil lines in the cover and might go unnoticed, so i just went the safe route and had a local bodyshop do the painting, and at the same time it gave me a reason to buy a paper gasket (easyer then sealing compound)
