Had a few oily spots on the engine and didn't want to use a can of engine de-greaser as its aggressive stuff...so I used some metho (not so aggressive,you can drink it [cheeky] ) in a spray bottle to do the job...end result, didn't remove the oil very well and turned the carbon clutch cover white... [bang]. Have used some liquid polishing wax on the carbon to try and restore it but will be looking for a new open cover now.

Metho is next to usless for cleaning grease.good for glass though.
I use mineral turps on a lot of  heavy grease  but haven't tested it on cf.
 
Just spray it black. [thumbsup]
 I think the cf ones look crappy anyway  go for
 an alloy billet cover. [thumbsup]

shite DukeZ that is bad luck, never would have know that, but i probably would have use metho either, sorry you have that experience

and by the fog in that oil window....she needs a nice long ride!!!

sorry to hear bout your misfortune.....I've used metho on the swing arm to get that clean before.

I tried brasso last night on the swingarm and carrier......that works well!!!!

(might see if it removes oil stains on the case later....but I'm not in any competition so......)

Split a fuel hose while riding a few weeks ago.  It went everywhere down the right side of her (and me!).  Fuel picked up the oil smear from the weepy oil cap (must bling and fix that) and as a result my right side case all around the "DUCATI" above the sight glass looks like sh!t.

The mess has since dried and that night I tried de-greaser and then straight petrol with a toothbrush but neither removed the stains from the oil/fuel mess.  [bang]

Anyone got any tips?

ah yes metho attacks epoxy resin but if heated and sanded and re epoxy depending on how thick the epoxy is , sometimes bring it back like new ,bazz 

Meguir's have a new bike cleaning product out. It is safe for all surfaces, and removes grease pretty well. The Meguirs non-acid wheel cloeaner also works well on engine cases and does not affect the finish on them, while still removing grease etc.  [thumbsup]

If I get Chain grease or pick up any oil spray from the road I use Orange power from Bunnings, It is designed to clean marks and stains off walls at home, but without damaging the paint.

I have used it on every surface on the bike with out any effects or marks, I don't normally spray it directly on the surface unless it is a heavy buildup of Shite, I normally apply a little to a cloth, and then a quick wipe and the grease or oil just comes straight off.

If I do spray it on directly, I agitate using a soft brush, then hose off and then wash the bike as normal, I always wash the bike afterwards as the Orange power does leave behind a slight film.

It's also gives your bike a spiffy Orange aroma!  ;D

 What happens if you wet it with water?
if it goes back to looking original or close to.
give it a soft rub with scotch brite/brillo pad or steel wool
and respray it with clear laquer.

Used the liquid polish wax and it's come back not to bad, will still be looking for a new open style cover.
