But the experts will pic the nickle plated bolts, pins cap screws, chain adjusters , nuts etc. Not to forget the titanium bleed nipples and bango bolts. and various s/s cap screws. As the stadard zinc plating washes off after about 5 years and looks crap :'( All of which can be bought in titanium or s/s, alloy. but very expensive. I have bought a home plating kit and do it at home piece at at time very cheap.Nickle is like chrome and will last for ever. Mine are a bit rusty, maybe I should replace them too ;D supersprox stealth chainring, steel outer teeth, aluminium carrier. the mx guys are on them these days too. gold for the M series, the S series gets black outer/alloy carrrier. they also have tabs to stop the cush washers reversing into the hub/eccentric. Hey paul depends what you call messy. I don't think it is that bad you just need a small work bench or even the kitchen will do but i like to leave it set up. so easy to do once you do a few trial runs and sort out the bugs. And you need some heat source the chip fryers are the best i had an old one. If your in Sydney area your welcome to look at my set up and help you get started. Tip polished the bolts or anything round in my pistol drill just put em in the chuck spin them up and polish the surface with emery cloth and Brillo pads before plating. and after plating samething but use a soft cloth and metal polish, autosole or similar I copied this from there site. The kits contain the chemical in crystal form to mix to make the required electrolyte. The brighteners are also supplied for each chemical. Anodes are supplied for each type of plating, be it nickel, zinc, or copper. A thermometer is supplied in the nickel kit, or dual kits. Pipes are supplied which are used as hanging bars for the jobs. Nickel wire is supplied to hang anodes on, and copper wire for hanging plating work on. A bench top transformer is included to supply current at 1.5 AMPS, with adjustable voltage. Larger power supplies are available if required. A bridge wire is included to bridge copper pipes together if required. A book is included in the kits complete with instructions and tips. I am always available for back up help if required. But the how to manual is what you really need Makes it easy a lot to learn even though it is simple it's all the little tricks. You will need the anodes and electrolyte the power supply needs to be around 12v/ 6volts variable for small stuff .they are available from jaycar will get the part no later for you.But no cheaper than jankits kenco degreaser for the parts before plating works they must be spotless or it goes patchy.even finger marks will stuff you up. AS IS SAID ITS ALL THE TRICKS But for $160 for the nickle kit not worth stuffing around. I went with stainless on most of my bike, but not only did I polish the bolts I rounded the heads and got rid of any knurling. I do it with the pistol drill at home, I have a buff for my bench grinder as well.. that was a good investment... but if I have heaps to do I'll do it at work on the lathe. The rounded heads seem to catch the light better... [roll] I even have my own engineering work shop /tool room 3 lathes and all the crap. But i like to just tinker at home and take my time, i tend to rush it at work soon as i start on the bike some one will want something.[bang] Good idea to radius the head. I have now started to replace them with high quality stainless The result is well worth it [thumbsup] so far I have only spent $20 and the convenience of having STAILESS R US 2 minutes from my house means every time I find another tarnished bolt its gone in 60 seconds. Post by: bazz20 on December 22, 2009, 12:41:15 PM about bloody time some one has put that to bed ive found the same in hydraulics on boats the high tensil bolts snap but the old soft stainless doesnt and in the marine environment you have too just use stainless on all fitting including prop shafts engine mounts ect by the way any one puting stainless bolts into aluminum dont use the copper or nickel anti seize it will create electrolysis just use a bit grease or better if you can get lancoate cheers bazz
