I rode to Wal-Mart today without any issues. When I attempted to start my 2006 S4R the thing was dead. I noticed that the gauges did not do their usual dance so I checked the fuses. The 15 amp “Tail Light + NQS-Pilot Light†fuse was smoked so I went back in and bought a new one. I replaced the fuse and the bike started right up and I took off with a smile on my face for being so damn smart!!!! Before I got out of the parking lot the gauges were dead again and I had no headlight or blinkers. Fortunately the bike continued to run so I rode on home to consult the experts. The new fuse is blown and it appears that I have an electrical gremlin somewhere. I have no idea where to start to resolve this problem. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
any recent work done on the bike?
I'd start near the tail chop.
The only work done recently was a oil change and a wash. I did not clean the bike with water but I did clean the area under the seat where there is modified wiring from the tail chop. I will start review the wiring under the seat first. THANK YOU!!!!
I had a similar issue with my ss after a wash. My dash and tail light fuse kept blowing. Traced it back to the big wiring connection that is between the motor harness and the headlight cluster left and right control harness. It's sealed to water but not well enough. Pulled it apart sprayed it down with compressed air and lubed it up with di-electric grease. No more blown fuses.
