Hey there,

I'm considering selling my Monster, but don't really know what the current value might be.  I was hoping to get a few opinions on what price range I should consider.  I just finished this project, but I also need to fund next year's race season...so, something's gotta give.  I also just finished tuning/jetting the carbs. - the bike is a rocket and it handles great.  Thanks for any insight and here are the details:

1,900 miles on a '94?  ???

Yup...1,900 miles.

The previous own (friend of mine) bought the bike about 8-9 years ago.  I delivered it to him in my van in upstate, NY.  He rode it once...maybe twice and then let the bike sit there.  I finally bought it from him about 1  1/2 years ago and slowly started going through it and bringing it back to life.  Incredibly, the bike actually started right up when I first got it home with gas that had been sitting in it for all those years.  I only let it run for less than a minute.  I haven't completely cleaned up the engine fins...there is still a little white oxidation on them.  I concentrated on the mechanical and also modifying it.  I hated the airbox on my old 900SS/SP and so I cut out the one in the Monster - it made working on the carbs/jetting soooooo much easier.  I have new belts too, but the ones that were in there looked/felt good for now.  If I keep the bike, I'll replace them next season.  Between shortening the gearing a bit and opening up the breathing...it's much faster than my Supersport was.  I finished the tuning on Monday - riding around with a small screwdriver and tools to adjust the Main jets and air fuel screw.  The torque is fantastic - I cannot imagine putting on 41mm FCRs.  I hadn't had that much fun street riding in a long, long time.  I think the front forks were revalved as well - the bike handled great.  The Fox rear is a huge upgrade as well.

Prices as you already know are very much on the low side for used bikes. Considering the bikes age, nearly 16 years old even with the low mileage, you're best bet may be to just part it out. That will no doubt yield the most $$$. If anything sell the aftermarket goodies, put the stock stuff back on and sell it as close to bone stack as possible. That's my 0.02.  Best of luck to you.

But, the oxygen that's been working on those fins has also been goin' to town on your belts, so regardless of how they feel, change 'em!!   :)

Based on what you might be able to get out of it at this point, I would keep it and enjoy it.  It's a beautiful bike.

Way too beautiful to part out. I'd ask $4500 and see what happens, heck, it's almost a classic.

After listing all the parts and other stuff I have into it...it's true - I'll never get it out what I have into it - unless I remove all the good stuff and take it back to stock (which is more work than I really want to do).  For a bike seller, the asking prices are horrible and for a buyer...good times...good times.

I'm about to put my '01 748S up for sale instead, but the realization for how much that will sell for is a little brutal on the ego as well (especially since I'm the original owner).  Unfortunately, racing is a drug habit that allows one/me to sell stuff I don't really want to sell and add those things to the long list of bikes I should have never sold.

I'll change the belts and keep the Monster for a while - it really was fun to ride the other day and I do love the sound of an air cooled twin.

it is worth exactly what someone else will pay for it.

that is the determination of price for anything.

current economic conditions are not friendly for sales.

list it for whatever you want. At $4500 I predict you will not receive an offer that is more than 66% of your asking price.

"extra cash" is in short supply in the secondary market.

damn fine bike though. I'd keep it.

I guessing if you know enough to include "V2 heads" in your description that you know exactly how much it is worth.  ;)

Probably is worth (with your mods) slightly less then a unmodified 1994 M900 with 1900 miles.
