Got the link on my Blackberry from the list while I was driving home. Victim of... The economy, poor sales due to a small market niche, HD engines, being sold thru Harley dealers who probably didn't understand them. Ax a mention on the General Forum, will this lead to some bargain prices on used Buells? Or, will prices inflate because they are now going to be extinct? Buy one now and store it for 10 years and wait for the Buell retro-bike craze? Anyone have links for Buell forums before I go a-Googling? Title: Re: Buell no more Post by: nicrosato on October 15, 2009, 10:57:04 AM Went back and read the Q&A- http://www.buell.com/en_us/q-and-a/index.asp (http://www.buell.com/en_us/q-and-a/index.asp)
In the end, HD will protect its core business of V-Twinkie cruisers. I can only assume that HD management feels that, by cutting costs, they will continue to be profitable selling to a shrinking segment of the market? I mean, guys who buy new Harleys are in my age group. It's interesting to observe how different management teams deal with diversity across their product line: Yamaha split off their cruiser line as Star. When I think of HD, I can close my eyes and see Microsoft and Windows. Like Danny DeVito says a the end of the movie "Other People's Money": I bet the last buggy-whip manufacturer that was left made a damn good buggy-whip." Title: Re: Buell no more Post by: KRJ on October 16, 2009, 07:12:47 AM Well " The Motor Co." sure flooded the market in the last 6-8 yrs. and there's only so many to buy the " lifestyle ". If Buell was their attempt to capture a younger, sportbike market, corporate and the dealerships didn't seem to eager to push the product much, at least not on the level of their "Harley Davidson" line, I think today's riders are looking for something more than brand sales hype, and a "Bad Biker" alter ego. Just My 2 cents..And today the last buggy-whip manufacturer would sell You a Willow Switch grown in China, not hard to be best when You're the only one in the contest!!
