Your link isn't working for me, but I assume you mean this? http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/15/colorado.boy.balloon/index.html (http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/15/colorado.boy.balloon/index.html)
Craziness. Shoulda kept that balloon in a shed, or something.
On the other hand, when the kid gets older this is going to be the Best Story Ever.
both links working for.
I they find him safe it will be a great story to tell his friends about.
Hm...
Link works for me now, too. Didn't earlier. [roll]
doh empty basket
hopefully this is a hoax.... and not that the kid fell/jumped out
Well, from what I heard the balloon's door was closed, and would have been open if he'd fell out.
Now they just need to find the kid. :P
Lots of police out in Boulder late this morning...more than the norm. All I can assume is that they too were looking for the balloon and the boy. (Unless they were dealing with another Boulder Creek "resident" issue.)
"The structure at the bottom of the balloon that the boy is in is made of extremely thin plywood and won't withstand any kind of a crash at all..."
It makes me sick to my stomach for the boy and his family.
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/21306839/detail.html (http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/21306839/detail.html)
saw it live on the news..... it came down rather softly. not really much of a crash.
But still no kid.
Feel sorry for the family but I think I would have secured the balloon a little better and/or kept a better eye on the boy.
I bet the kid let it go by accident, and is hiding because dad is gonna spank his ass.
Gawd I hope he's hiding. For the benefit of knowing he's ok.
Big deal if he and his brother decided to ditch the hot-pocket breakfast and go play outside by dad's new balloon before school.
I swear I could never be a parent. I get anxiety over my nieces and nephews a thousand miles away. Can't imagine the parental anxiety.
It was just announced that the boy is alive and at the parent's house.
[thumbsup]

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A 6-year-old boy was found in his home after a massive search. The boy was first believed aboard a helium balloon. LIVE VIDEO:7News Coverage
"He's at the house and he's fine," said Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden, shortly after 4 p.m. "He was hiding in a cardboard box in the attic above the garage."

You really think he is? The stories in school just went from cool hero to dipshit. :-X
I have to agree with Dan...
before this is all over the kid is gonna wish he was in the balloon.

I'm still a kid. ;D
He's 6...hopefully he isn't in too much trouble. Maybe the balloon should have been secured a bit better by the adults. [popcorn]
still... I'd rather be him than the Roe vs Wade kid

Maybe...
Let's assume the parents told the kid to leave the balloon alone...
you think it's coincidence he was hiding? ;D
I
suspect he
expects ramifications.

Of course...he was hiding for a reason. ;D
How much stuff did you get into when you were told not to at that age though. ;) I'm not saying he shouldn't get into trouble...but if you're a parent and you have a massive balloon and a 6 year old, you may want to secure the balloon pretty well, regardless of what you tell the 6 year old.

I was an angel bro. [evil]
I'm not saying the little bastid should go to prison...
I'm just saying he knew he was screwed...hence the Osama bin laden hiding.
I'm pretty sure the older brother could shed a little light on this too.
I doubt he was blameless.
I can see it now.... [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

how else would I be so sure? ;D
I hear that they will be on Larry King Live tonight.
[roll]
Appears his dad yelled at him earlier for messing with the balloon ...
From MSN:
"I was in the attic and he scared me because he yelled at me," Falcon said. "That's why I went in the attic."
During his time in hiding, Falcon said he played with his toys and took a nap. He said he finally got up because he was bored.
It appears the hoax theory is beginning to play out.

Falcon saying on CNN, "we did it for the show".
That show aired a year ago. Does a 6 y/o know how to set up that spectacular of a hoax? Meh. I'm still not buying into it but if it IS proven, I'll admit I was had. And you were right. [roll]
I say publicity stunt.
I dont think that thing would have lifted off with the weight of that kid in it...and the dad knew it. He called FAA then he called the news....toss in all the shows they are doing interviews for..... instant promo for the weather show.
add in the lil kid say''n he did it for the show....... fake drama

Maybe the kid was trying to prove that he hasn't fallen victim to "Pussification":
Falcon Heene Rap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmlBPAY90MM#normal)
One odd family. Or maybe I've just been pussified. . .
If it is a hoax the parents need to be charged with misuse of emergency services, misuse of 911, resist, obstruct, delay law enforcement, and have D.S.S. investigate weather they should have custody. I also believe the parents should have to pay back all emergency services for their time and wear and tear of equipment.

A hoax is treated as a "False Report to Authorities" and is a class 3 misdemeanor.
The Sheriff advised if it turns out to be a hoax, they would seek restitution for the services used in the search.

if it is I hope they are chargesd and convicted. Just think of all the people who were not offered emergency service during the time everyone was chasing and attempting to rescue this child. Just plain selfish and stupid. (if its a hoax)
Hey Falcon..... a pussy hides where?
In a box in the attic [laugh]
I'm surprised no one posted this yet...

charges likely [laugh]
CPS looking into it as well.
If this was a hoax they didn't think it through very well now did they. :-[
Looks like they world will be crashing down, just like the balloon did:
http://www.denverpost.com/ci_13589767 (http://www.denverpost.com/ci_13589767)
The sheriff said no charges had been filed yet, and the parents weren't under arrest. He said he expected to recommend charges of conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, making a false report to authorities and attempting to influence a public servant.
Some of the most serious charges each carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
Oops!
A gift for the family...
