Title: pics of the new gauge set (new high res pics too!) Post by: accrocker on October 15, 2009, 06:43:53 PM The final touch to my quest to be rid of the curse that is the ducati gauge and immobilizer package!! Already installed was a reflashed DP ECU that eliminated the immobilizer, now I got my hands on an Acewell 4000 series gauge to top it off. No more worries about riding in the rain, these things will run underwater!! Seriously, I've seen it done! It took some time scouring the wiring schematics for the bike, and a few editions of harnesses of my own design to figure out how to wire it up as the factory gauge uses a CAN bus for a good amount of data that is being displayed. I also had to rebuild the turn signal circuit since the factory gauge acts as the power supply and the flasher. All said and done I am very pleased with how it has turned out. I do still need to fab up a proper mount for it. I just threw something together with some scrap aluminum I had in my tool box. The profile of the bike is much improved, the new gauge seems to fit the lines better than the factory pod did. Sorry for the poor quality photos, I forgot my camera and had to use the cell phone instead.

[thumbsup]
I can't wait to get my ECU done, drop the gauges, and do something similar... How does it run, did they tune it as well? Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: kopfjÀger on October 15, 2009, 07:18:47 PM Very nice. [thumbsup]
Now lets talk about that awesome make the beast with two backsing shop. :o Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: accrocker on October 15, 2009, 07:27:19 PM HaHaHa, The shop is pretty nice huh? BMW really knows how to build them!
Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: accrocker on October 15, 2009, 07:31:37 PM She runs like crazy now with the ecu work. The sound this bike makes is incredible! The marvings have a nice booming idle, and absolutely scream up near redline. Earplugs are a must have now. The sound from the pods is nice too. For me it is worth it all to no longer have to worry about whether or not my bike will start up after being ridden in the rain. Being stranded once was enough for me.
Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: Bill in OKC on October 15, 2009, 08:48:44 PM You have accomplished my dream modification. Great mod, eliminating the last vestiges of the immobilizer. With a shop like that, how could I expect any less - lol. The exhaust looks good too btw.
Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: DucHead on October 16, 2009, 02:05:37 AM Nice clean look with the single gauge! [thumbsup]
Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: Pedro-bot on October 16, 2009, 07:06:01 AM Looks Great!!
How 'bout some pics of it on? Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: accrocker on October 16, 2009, 06:25:38 PM Some high res. pics scheduled for sunday afternoon with the sponsor who provided the gauge. I will be sure to post some with the bike running.
Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on October 17, 2009, 07:26:26 PM I want to do this sooooo bad. I had heard the only way was to dismantle the gauges and put the immobilizer board somewhere else, this is much much nicer.
was flashing the ECU originally for performance or was it strictly for the immobilizer? could it be both, and does the place/product you used have a site? Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: pitbull on October 18, 2009, 04:40:16 AM the single gauge looks fantastic. I didn't realize how cluttered the stock gauge looks until you posted the pics of your bike.......huge improvement.
I'm guessing this would be an easier mod on a pre-immobilizer monster? Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: accrocker on October 18, 2009, 08:15:32 AM This probably would have been at least a cheaper mod on a pre immobilizer bike. With the availability of reflashed ecus it has become easier to disable the immobilizer. At first I tried to disassemble the factory gauge and mount the circuit board elsewhere on the bike, but I have removed the airbox, and the side pods, and relocated some wiring, and I was unable to find a place to hide the circuit. I am trying to go for a very minimalist, cafe sort of look, and I just didn't want some random box of circuitry and all of the associated wiring hanging out somewhere on the bike. The reflashed ecu also offered a significant performance gain over the stock unit. It started with the standard ducati performance map, and the vendor I used modified the map based on the equipment I had on the bike. The performance gain alone was worth the effort.

Your photos sent me on a little hunt for that exhaust, I'm sorely tempted by them. Did you have any troubles getting the badge off? *Edit* Found out you can order them w/o the badges. And *nice* shop btw Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: Setsukosan on October 20, 2009, 11:45:40 AM lookin' good [thumbsup]

Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set Post by: accrocker on October 20, 2009, 03:43:44 PM Some better pictures as promised! You can also check out electrosport.com to see more tech info on the gauge. If anybody is interested in getting one, a good friend of mine works there, and would probably be willing to offer some kind of good buddy discount. Just shoot me a p.m. if you are interested.

Post by: Spidey on October 20, 2009, 05:17:03 PM Yummy. I like that a lot. It has the same general look as Drunken Monkey's motogadget set-up, just not mounted in a Harley headlight.

Post by: accrocker on October 20, 2009, 05:42:57 PM I like the look of the motogadget unit a lot, but it was a bit out of the range I was willing to spend. I also like buying from a local company for the ease of tech support.

I hate to ask the obligatory "what exhaust is that" question but... is it a SIL? Marving? Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set (new high res pics too!) Post by: corey on October 21, 2009, 01:56:14 PM do the mega's clamp on right at the end of the can? and if so, what diameter is piping they clamp on to? i love megaphones... and might hack up my zard exhaust if the fit would be proper...
Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set (new high res pics too!) Post by: accrocker on October 21, 2009, 08:15:05 PM Ya, they clamp on straight at the end of the pipes. I couldn't tell you what diameter the pipe is. I will measure it tomorrow at work if I remember to.
Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set (new high res pics too!) Post by: scott_araujo on October 22, 2009, 09:40:45 PM Super slick on the gauges. It reminds me of a vintage British bike now, super clean! Anything that makes a Monster more minimal is ok by me.

Goes great with the exhaust. Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set (new high res pics too!) So I was looking into getting this and I've got a few questions for you. 1 Now that you've had it on for a bit, how do you like it? any specific likes/dislikes? 2. Any wiring trouble? all the indicators working properly? 3. cost of the gauge? thanks! Title: Re: pics of the new gauge set (new high res pics too!) Post by: accrocker on November 04, 2009, 04:11:22 PM I like the gauge very much. The wiring was a pain in the ass, and would have been worse I expect if I didn't have 7 years of experience with automotive electronics. The indicators work great the way I have them set up. I can't think of any immediate cons to the whole experience. I mostly installed it for looks, and because I was tired of the stock gauge dying every time I rode in the rain. I am not positive on the cost, but I think that it is about $250. If you are interested in it talk to the guys at electrosport, they can give you more specifics than I can.
