Title: Right Side Panel Replacements
Post by: WetDuc on October 16, 2009, 03:31:07 AM
I just removed my emissions canister and I want to get a normal side panel for the right side of my '08 695.  Basically, the existing one bulges out to accommodate the preexisting canister.  I'm not looking for CF panels, just normal plastic ones.  I saw that monsterparts.com has one for $30.  Anybody out there do this and find a cheaper replacement?  It's just a dang piece of black plastic!
Thanks!

Many of us have removed the side panels entirely.  Shows off the frame a little more.  Might have to re-route a coil or some wires to really clean it up, depending on what year/model you have, but overall very easy.

I did consider that, but I'm not sure I like the side panels off more than on.  Besides, I'm becoming known as the guy who owns the "Monster 69" because I took off the 5 sticker on each panel.  I just remember reading somewhere on this forum that there were $12 side panel replacements available somewhere...can't figure out where the heck I read it, though... [bang]

Do the panels serve any purpose other than cosmetic? If not, off they go.

The only place I found any right side covers that didn't have the bubble,
were from Euro suppliers. Unless you want CF.

I will take them off today and see if I like how it looks.  I'm afraid I'm not going to like seeing all the wires that hide behind those side panels, though.

Took the side panels off, the bike looks meaner, panels are staying off! [moto]

Does your bike have clip-ons and no rear view mirrors at all?  How do you like the clip ons? (derailing my own thread...)

Ditch the covers --->

Took me all of about 10 min to "hide" the wires that were behind the covers...

Sweet!   I have really been thinking of putting clip-ons on mine.  They lend the bike a real lifelike stature that I think looks really cool.  Almost like an angry, hunched over football player type look.

I didn't put much effort into hiding the wires that were behind the side panels, I just tucked some of the more obvious ones up behind the frame and they are not visible anymore.  Some i didn't care too much about so I just left them visible.  In any case, the lines of the bike are much improved now!

good thing, and you will see how little by little you will find  more and more ways to hide those wires.

You are right about the clipons, the bike gets a more agresive look with them. I also believe that different clipons give an even more agresive look.

This are cool.
