Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: Dave R on October 18, 2009, 09:08:14 PM that dealers accessory reps should be shot!
Looks like no one was watching inventory levels or really running that business! You would also think before they tanked they would have found a way to sell off at least 50% of the obsolete and over stocked inventory... e bay works if you make the effort! How am I supposed to get there then?! that's pretty standard. especially if its a bankruptcy auction many states req it to be during normal business hours (i.e. M-F 9-5) Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: NAKID on October 19, 2009, 03:52:47 AM Yeah, but there is NO WAY I can get out of school for an auction...

Also would have liked to look at a couple of the boats. Really would have liked to buy several things if they were cheap and re-sell...
Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: Monsterlover on October 19, 2009, 05:09:46 AM Anyone that's close and can go should go.
Bring cash too and be ready to spend it. I went to a Duc dealer auction here and bought some things for resell. Some things I got a good deal on. Others, not as much but I still made money. The trouble with this is that everyone will come out of the wood work and sometimes the bidding will go nutty. Don't let that stop you. I bought a brand new ie Monster tank for $120 and withing 30 seconds of the win sold it to the guy bidding against me for $160 [laugh] I hadden't even paid for it yet 8) Things to look out for are tools, gear (even if it doesn't fit you, it will sell) signage etc. Stuff you normally don't have access too. Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: ducatiz on October 19, 2009, 05:36:57 AM Anyone that's close and can go should go. Bring cash too and be ready to spend it. just be advised this auctioneer charges a 13% buyer's premium or 10% if you pay cash. it's bullshit but it is commonly done nowadays to reduce the premium charged to the seller. it just means to bid accordingly. Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: Monsterlover on October 19, 2009, 05:38:26 AM 10% is a little high I think.
I think 6-7% is normal around here. Maybe it's regional? Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: ducpainter on October 19, 2009, 09:47:21 AM I've never been to an auction in New England where a "buyers premium" wasn't charged.
Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: ducatiz on October 19, 2009, 09:55:53 AM interesting
i've only seen it down south a few times and usually much lower. it is a bad idea, people end up paying less and the seller gets less. it only works if the buyers are not paying attention... http://townsend-real-estate.com/Buyers_Premium.htm (http://townsend-real-estate.com/Buyers_Premium.htm) Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: Monsterlover on October 19, 2009, 12:38:53 PM It's how auction houses make their money.
The seller doesn't get less, you just pay more. The extra goes to the auction house for setting up the auction, tagging everything and handling the money. 10% seems high to me, but ive seen that before. It could still be a deal. Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: NAKID on October 19, 2009, 03:11:39 PM 10% is the cash number, 13% for CC...

I think 'tiz meant people end up 'spending' less because of the fee.The seller doesn't get less, you just pay more. I agree the 10% premium on cash is high right, they spend less and as a result, the seller gets less. if i gotta pay an extra 10% i am gonna bid less... Top heavy beast of a bike, but can still get up and go with authority. Unfortunately Hurricane Ike decided to push water all 15 ft up to the garage level then another 3 ft to the seat level of the bike. :'( Title: Re: RER Bike shop closed auction: Monroe, CT Post by: ducatiz on November 19, 2009, 06:50:42 AM I could notMake it.
