Title: Stock handle bars 05 s2r
Post by: karrotx on October 22, 2009, 12:53:42 PM
I low sided at NJMP on 09/24 and had to replace the bars and "fix" the tank mount. I just got bars from Duck-Stew, I had a hard time putting them on last night. The bars he sent me had the nubs which I sawed off (my previous bars did not).

With the way they are currently mounted, my left hand is almost an 1/2 inch more forward then the right. I didn't notice this until riding to work today; when the bike is not moving the bars feel right and look like they're aligned correctly. When the bikes moving the bars need to be turned to the right slightly to keep straight.

Do you think this is a problem of:
1). Tweaked forks
2). Tweaked bar
3). Wheel/Axle
4). Other

Also, could you post pictures of how the bar setup should look.

Thanks!

What are the details of the lowside?
Are you sure the bar is not bent?
are the bars centered correctly?

bring it to a shop to check the alignment of the front wheel vs the triple clamps.

on the monster, the steering stops are on the bottom triple, the wide bars on the top triple create a long moment arm.

Take the front wheel off, forks, loosen up the top triple, then re-install everything (leaving the top triple loose on the stem).

ALWAYS check the brake caliper bolts and pinch bolts on both triples BEFORE going for a test ride!!

If everything goes back together nice and straight, good. If not, you need a shop to take known measurements to diagnose which parts are bent...
