Adopting a bunch of abandoned, unfortunate or mistreated pets is not the same as buying a high priced pedigree animal for the sake of being cool.

Last weekend I winterized my '67 Cougar, part of which consisted of dumping in the appropriate amount of StaBil. And then a test drive, during which many full throttle romps were necessary to ensure that the float bowls were replenished fully with stabilized fuel. Said Cougar has dual quads. My carbon footprint was huge during that half hour.

My body doesnt absorb lactose that well. So a cup of milk translates to 2lbs of Green House Gases over the course of 2 hours.

Dont ask how i get 2lbs of gas from 12oz of milk.

Also, my dog does not have a large carbon footprint because i feed him my left over food which coincidentally also has a low carbon footprint because i eat pet dogs for dinner.

Yes i am chinese and i like to eat puppies. chow time pregnant dog.

I think just for them I could turn canibal.  Wonder what the carbon offset would be for eating filet de Vales for a year instead of my normal beef, chicken and pork?

Just  owning one Sami Squirrel leaves the same carbon footprint as does driving one 1973 GMC Suburban for an entire year (with the a/c on)

I've always figured that the best thing I could do for the environment (and society as a whole) is to never have kids.

My carbon footprint will pretty much die with me.

To that end: a local radio station had a contest last year where they asked people to submit pics of them doing something good for the environment. Some friends and I basically staged a murder. The pics we submitted showed us kidnapping a person from the local Dunkin Donuts, taking him out into a field, shooting him and burying him in a shallow grave. (All fake, of course. We're not THAT sick.) In our submission email, I stated that by eliminating this person from society, I was effectively eliminating his carbon footprint forever. The final photo showed the three of us together (me, the victim, and the cameraman) proving that it was a hoax.

Alas, we did not win. But we did get a letter, signed by all of the DJ's, stating that ours was the most original (and disturbing!) entry received. While they all enjoyed it, they didn't feel that it was something they could post on their website as a "good example."

I'm a bit of a tree hugger and I give the article little credence.  I'm quite sure your pet has an environmental impact just as squirrels (both wild and Samis) do but I would like the see how these numbers are derived.  My guess is they ignore some facts that pet food for our carnivorous furry friends comes mostly from byproducts.  Except for one Rottie I used to know.  Man, could that dog fart.

Someone in here in Spokane, WA has a beautiful 68 Charger with a license plate holder that says Global Warmer.

GLBWMR would make a nice plate for someone.

actually....

if it was running rich, then your CO and HC foot print was huge (the exhaust gases that really do damage the environment but we've basically eliminated with modern catalysts)

the more efficient you burn fuel the higher CO2 it produces (the exhaust gas the stupid hippies worry about)

when you go past stoich your NOx shoots up (not shown on this chart) which is also a pretty nasty gas (also controlled by catalysts).

It's actually pretty well tuned. But it definitely burns through the fuel if you exercise the right foot - I burned up over an eighth of a tank in the short time I was out tearing around.  ;D  [evil]

Then again, a 3-speed auto and 3.50 axle gears don't help much either....

Yep, factory setup even. Nothing like a ported and polished, cammed up, high compression small block.

It's already got the export brace.

I think you meant a monte carlo bar.     ;)

that would help too, but those sure look like the factory braces which are useless, take a look at the the picture that you posted, you can see that the export brace mounts below the shock mounts. The cougar posted in this thread doesn't have that.

Correct.

The car has no export brace. Had one once that I intended on putting on but didn't like the way it fit, so it got resold.

Had obtained a Monte Carlo bar too, but couldn't bring myself to drilling holes in my baby. The undercarriage, engine bay, interior (even carpet), and trunk of the car are all still original and untouched.

if it was a factory ford export brace and didn't fit, it means that your car's unibody has warped. Those things should have been installed from the factory in all cars because they greatly strengthen the front end and improve handling. Here's a great article on how and why to install it... http://www.fly-ford.com/MM0105-How_To_Install_an_Export_Brace_and_a_Monte_Carlo_Bar.html (http://www.fly-ford.com/MM0105-How_To_Install_an_Export_Brace_and_a_Monte_Carlo_Bar.html)

Rumor has it that some of the '67 small block Cougars have only 1 torque box.

Is this true on your car?

It would have fit just fine if not for the dual quad setup. The air cleaner would have had to have been modified to move it forward about an inch, and there's no way that was happening.  ;)

What's it run? Dunno, never had it on the strip. It's slightly "traction limited" anyway, as it has skinny redline bias plies on factory wheels. The seat-of-the-pants meter says low-14s, maybe a hair quicker with traction.

alfisti, by "torque box" are you talking the wrapped (reinforced) shock towers? Mine doesn't have them, they were a later thing with big block cars or (even later) cars with A/C.

here's a pretty trick aftermarket export brace...

http://www.mpgheads.com/ExportBrace/ExportBrace.htm (http://www.mpgheads.com/ExportBrace/ExportBrace.htm)

as far as the torque boxes are concerned, they are on the bottom of the car by the front of the factory frame rails...

Can't say I've ever seen a vintage Mustang/Cougar with only one torque box - mine's got two.

As for the MPG export brace, I had one on my old '70 Cougar strip car. Very nice piece (and effective), but it would ruin the resto vibe the rest of my '67 has (note date coded hoses, correct clamps, etc. in my pic).
